Still Trying

Today, I wrote another letter to Rush Limbaugh. I am hoping someone there reads it and he takes action.

"Dear Rush,

I have written to my two state senators here in my new home of Texas (used to live on Long Island in NY) asking them what mechanism is set up for someone to return the COVID-19 stimulus payments to the government when unwanted by the payee. I have also previously written to you, Sean Hannity and Mark Levin about the same issue. I received only one reply, that from  Senator Cornyn of Texas but it in no way at all answered or even addressed my inquiry relative to how to return the payment to the government.

I do not want it, my wife is also willing to send it back. We do not need it, we do not want to burden the economy or the taxpayers in our great nation. We do not want to be at all responsible for turning this country into a nanny state nor for the double or possibly triple digit inflation we expect because of the stimulus program.

Please, if you can, help us to find out exactly what official mechanism is in place to return this money to the government.

We are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers for a full recovery.

A Post Office Of Yesteryear - Today

Sold some Tapco 10 round AK-47 mags recently to a guy back in NY. Received the money order from him yesterday; only found it in the mail box when it was already too late to get the mags sent out so waited until today. Took a look to see which post offices were open near me and as per Google Maps, none near me were open. There was one open that was about 17 miles away in Hope, AR but it was closing with 20 minutes of me checking. There was another in Ogden, AR scheduled to open within a half hour of my inquiry, and I figured since I was not doing anything else better I'd head there.

The ride was pleasant and the post office easy to find. It was one of those quaint little post offices consisting of a small building and had its own parking lot in which you could squeeze about all of four to five vehicles. Sign on the door said masks were required so on mine went and I went inside. Only one person ahead of me but while I had the package with the mags to send out, I had forgotten the $40.05 money order in my car that I wanted to cash and use to pay for the postage. Went outside and got it and then there were two folks ahead of me. The clerk seemed very confused dealing with the guy already at the counter. Once he was done with, she handled the next person quickly. My turn and I asked the clerk if she could cash the m/o. She did not know, said she was new and had to make a call because she was uncertain if that was allowed. Made the call and said she could not cash it because she only had $100 in her drawer.

Oh well, I'd pay cash to send the parcel. She looked up the postage for the medium sized flat rate box I was using at told me it would be $14.35. Being she was new, I asked her to check again because as per the USPS website, the postage is $15.05 for a flat rate medium Priority Mail box. She looked at the aged chart stuck to the counter top and said something to the effect that 'No, it's $14.35'. I said okay, I would not argue and be glad to pay less. She took $15.00 from me and gave me 65 cents change. 

I waited for my receipt until it became obvious she was not going to give one and then I asked her for it. She fumbled around, slowly punched the keys several times on her calculator, printed up the result from the calculator, stamped that little maybe 3" stub of paper with a post mark, fumbled with the post mark then stamped it again. Then she handed it to me with another small slip of paper with a thin band of a sticker on it. When I asked what was that -she said the receipt. I was flummoxed. I asked where was the typical register receipt, printed out with the tracking number, the zip code and town to where being sent, the date it was being sent, the time it was being sent, the amount paid, and the expected date of delivery among other things. She looked at me with kind of a panicked doe in the headlights gaze and said "WHAT"! I explained I wanted a normal receipt as I have gotten in every other post office I have used in the past ten or more years. She said what she gave me was the normal receipt along with the tracking number. 

I handed her the 65 cents change back and told her to give me a refund and that I'd send the package elsewhere. She handed me cash back that I did not bother counting (shame on me because it was a dollar short, as well as being a new postal clerk she also was no math wiz). I realized she had shorted me when I got in my car but just drove away, I figured she'd maybe start crying if I told her she had miscounted.

The box will be mailed from a real post office, where I will get a real receipt, on Monday and not from one that is using the type of receipt they used in small out in the middle of nowhere podunk post offices in the middle of the last century. It's a wonder the post office is still in business.

Lest We Forget - May 8, 1945 - VE Day

May 8, 1945, Victory In Europe Day, was the official end of the war in Europe with the Allied victory over the Axis Powers when Germany offered its unconditional surrender. It would be an understatement to say that the free world celebrated that day; hell the Germans were probably happy it was over too.

It would be another 3 months and one week (exactly) - August 15, 1945 - before VJ Day when the Japanese surrendered (the 15th in Japan and 14th in the US due to the dateline - the surrender documents were not signed until September 2, 1945 but the Japanese did in fact surrender on the 15th of August) and of course that only came after Truman ordered the only two atomic bombs ever detonated in actual warfare to be dropped on Japan.

The Poor Math Skills of Progressive Media Types

I guess you do not need to be a mathematics wiz to become a reporter or editor. The headline says: 

"46 shot, 4 fatally, in Chicago weekend shootings"(Source.)

That was including 4 who were killed but the number of those shot as stated in the first sentence of the article does not add up to 46:

"Four people were killed and 41 others were wounded in shootings across Chicago so far over the first weekend of May."

Seems to me the numbers in that first sentence add up to 45 not 46. Close but no cigar!

Oh - did I forget to comment on where the shootings took place? Where else but Chicago the windy city - all those bullets whizzing by create quite an air current!

There's Nothing Like Fresh Eggs

I love fresh chicken eggs probably as much as the next guy but what I love even more is when my girls drops eggs. She essentially put four into a hole in the ground today. I found her trying to dig in the outside tortoise pen but its only got maybe an inch of substrate, at most, above concrete. So, I grabbed her up and put her in the inside pen, a turtle tub, that has substrate on both ends - one end shallow and one end a deep basin. She started to dig with a couple of minutes. Keeping my fingers crossed that this was the first day she was trying to deposit them and that they are fertile; her last batch was all duds. Makes me think maybe the male is shooting blanks since she is relatively young as tortoises go but I suppose she could be the reason. Then again, they may have sat at too cool a temperature last time before I got them into the incubator. Today I got em set up inside the incubator within 15 minutes or so and had put them out side where it was nice and warm until then. 







She, by the way, is a Hermann's Tortoise around 17+ years old, damned if I can recall her age. I got her when she was a at least a couple to few years old and have had her at least 14-15 years is all that the little gray cells can come up with. She won Best In Show at the Long Island Herpetological society's annual show in 2007; I think I had her about 2 years by then. 

I should be able to tell if the eggs are fertile within a week or so. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Serious But Sad

What is truly sad about Biden being run as the Dem candidate is that he was the best for whom they had to vote in the primaries - or so they thought. I cannot believe that they did not revolt against the DNC for the totally shit selection of candidates they put to the vote: from Spartacus, to Fauxihontas, to the the skin flute player, to the fake Mexican gun grabber, to a no good rotten commie/socialist, to a wanna be Musolini who instead of keeping railroads on time wanted to control your sugar intake, to a dipshit mayor whose actions spread Corona virus through mass transit, to several unheard of idiots, to a guy who apparently has full blown dementia (or a similar mental disease) and they vote for that guy the one who can't remember what office it is for which he is running! If he beats Trump, I hope there truly is a God because we will truly need his help.

Gun Camera - Now This Is Cool

Not only is the 'Gun Camera' and it's footage cool but the fact that the officer got the dirtbag even after the bad guy shot him is exceptionally marvelous. Imagine this device being put into mandatory widespread use on police weapons. I like it.

First Shots - Sig Arms GSR Revolution RCS

Took the Sig Arms GSR Revolution RCS out to the range yesterday. Shot about 150 rounds through it. Pretty accurate but a little jumpy in the hand with those thin 1911 style grips and nothing for the pinky finger to grab onto (it's a compact, not a full sized 1911 type pistol) but I will get used to that I suppose. Had two failures to feed on the last round in the mag. Don't know if that was due to shooter error (like maybe my ever so delicate wrists acting all sorts of limp), the magazine(s), the ammo or the gun. If it is still doing that after 500 rounds or so, I'll look into it further. Not too concerned now as it is not currently and not likely to become my carry gun.
 
My first 7 shots with it had about a 5" spread with one flier (fired at a used target someone had left behind - doing my part to recycle, it's about a 12 circle):


 
My second set of 7 shots had about the same group size also with a flier in the bunch (the Birchwood Casey slapped over the other target has an 8" diameter):


 
All those shots were slowfire at 25 yards, standing, two hand hold unsupported. I am sure the groups would have been much tighter if I had my eyes of 20 or even 10 years ago but these were good enough to make me happy about my first two mags worth of shots with it. I am sure I will improve with it (who am I trying to kid). After that I did not bother to check the target again, I just fired away pretty much to check the functionality - slow fire, rapid fire, strong hand only, weak hand only - until I was out of ammo. Got to bring a few hundred rounds next time. 

I like my new toy and am going to enjoy shooting it very much.

On Thursday I 'WAS' Hankering For A Range Trip

On Friday, I got it done. Took a drive to Smith Park Range over in AR on Friday. Only one shooter was there when I arrived; had there been more I probably would have made a U-turn and driven away - I've seen too many morons there before. As it was, I stayed, I figured one guy would not be too hard to keep an eye on. Seemed like he knew what he was doing while tinkering with the scope on his rifle, then I noticed the bolt was closed. A few minutes later, as I loaded magazines at one of the benches, he gets up from his bench, walks around in front of his rifle, bends a bit at his hips and puts his hands on his knees and starts peering either into the scope or the muzzle or both. Then he walked back behind the firing line, sat at his bench and told me he was going to shoot one round; that was a plus but did not make up for walking in front of the firing line and peering down the muzzle or scope from the wrong end. Anyway, I gave him the thumbs up and said okay since I had my eyes and ears on already. He fired one shot and then fiddled with his gun some more. A short time later, I told him I was going hot and he said okay. I fired 14 rounds out of my Sig Arms GSR Revolution RCS - n o problems. Then I shot 64 rounds through one of my two Zastava M70 pistols using all 8 magazines I have for them. Every round fed, fired, extracted and ejected nicely through the first M70. 

A little bit later, after I had reloaded my mags, I was getting the other M70 ready to fire and was about to put a mag into it since the line was hot and the other guy had been firing. I turned to tell him I was about to load and fire and there he was just passing the bench to walk downrange to his target. He did not say a thing to me and obviously did not look at me and see my handling my pistol. I put the pistol down immediately. When he came back with his target in hand, I got up and walked over and told him what just happened. He said he did not know I had been handling a gun - hell we were in the middle of shooting without anyone calling a ceasefire. At least he was civil about me telling him he had just walked downrange while I was handling a gun. He thanked me and said he'd be more careful. Then he just proceeded to get his gear together and got ready to leave; he had gone downrange to retrieve his target. Seemed like a nice guy but also typical of the shooters I have seen at that particular range - virtually clueless to range etiquette and firearms & range safety.

After that, I shot about another 136 rounds with the M70s. Two failures to feed HP rounds in one of them, no failures in the other. Could have been the ammo (this stuff was very old and slightly corroded) or the magazine - I recently got a replacement mag for one of the extras I had purchased but that had been frozen by rust. I forgot to clean the gunk out of the new mag before hitting the range. Also could have been the gun as I am pretty sure it failed to feed a round out of two different mags. It fed, fired, extracted and ejected flawlessly with FMJ today - jammed a few times on my first range trip with it - so maybe it was the gun and it just needs a bit more breaking it. Next time I bring it along, I will bring more ammo and put it through a real workout to see if things smooth out; I'll also make sure all the mags are clean and gunk free. 

So far the only issue other than those failures to feed is the fact that the mags do not fall free on their own when the mag release is depressed, you have to pull them out an inch or two before they free fall. I don't anticipate ever carrying one of these for self-defense and only am planning on using them at the range or for plinking. They handle nicely, fit in my hand okay although are on the small side, have minimal recoils (they are chambered in 32 ACP), and seem fairly accurate. I like them both  the one that performed flawlessly better than the other but figure once broken in, the other one will be just fine. If not then some small bit of polishing the feed ramp should help.

I alternated shooting between the M70s and the Sig.  I shot 50 rounds of FMJ and about 100 rounds of JHP through it through the Sig. There were two failures to feed - both on the last round. That could have been because the pistol has not been broken in, due to user error (like limp wristing), due to the ammo (there were some deformed rounds in a box of Target Sports Prime ammo I had with me (maybe I missed two when loading mags but I think not), or due to one or the other or both of the magazines. I am not sure if it happened with one or both mags - just that it happened twice. Again, next time I bring it to the range, I'll bring more ammo and if it happens again, I'll mark the mag used when it happens. Regardless of the two failures to feed, this is one nice pistol. It fed, fired, extracted and ejected with only those two failures. ZIt is on the small side for a 1911 type 45; the one thing I did not like is that sometimes it almost jumped out of my hand because the grips do not seem quite long enough; I'd just have to shoot it a lot more to get used to that if I ever decide to carry this for self-defense. I shot FMJ and JHP through it and two types of JHP at that.

After done with those, I pulled out the Ruger Redhawk in 44 Rem Mag. I was shooting the other pistols at 25 yards and continued at that distance with the big revolver. I put 5 of six shots in an 8 inch circle and had one flier about an inch outside of that. I fired about another 18 or 24 rounds after that before calling it a day. While shooting the Ruger, I shot to different brands of ammo, one at 240 grains and the other at 300 grains. Surprisingly enough, they were hitting in the same area on the target with no difference due to brand, grain weight nor the load for each. That has not been my experience in the past and on previous range trips I'd have to adjust the rear sight when switching ammo. Not today and that was a good thing. I was quite satisfied with my shooting. All of it, when actually shooting at the targets, was two hand unsupported at 25 yards. When putting rounds through the 45 and the two M70s - lots of the rounds through the 45 were shot one handed as well and not aimed at anything in particular - I was just doing a function check on it for the most part. I did not bother aiming on target for any of the shots with the M70, I already know how accurately I shoot with them, today was just further function checking them and breaking them in. I must say that as far as the shots at the target went, with the 45, I probably had a 5 or 6" group at 25 yards with one flier; as for the Ruger 44 Mag, my group was about 5 - 6" with a couple of fliers. All the shots from the Ruger were at the target.

My hankering was finally satisfied after about two hours there at the range. It was a good day.

Plotting A 'We Survived The Rona V Roadtrip'

Got a bug up mine arse this evening that gave me an itch to go on a road trip once all this Rona V shit has ended (or maybe before if they don't reopen America). Called the male heir and asked when is his vacation and what are his plans. He has two weeks coming, one already set for a NY trip around Christmas. The other week is free - well was free. I suggested a road trip to him in the car his mom recently gave him. A Volvo C30 or C5 or C189 (whatever, I have no clue but I know it has a C in the name). I also know, it definitely does have a turbo charged engine. 

I think it'd be nice to drive that like a madman and I am sure so does my boy. So, it looks like Brendan and I (and probably Skye the mongrel) will be hitting the road but when is undecided. I am hoping for a week or two before the 4th. The direction will be north by northwest (excellent direction and even better movie) from Benton, AR. First destination  - wherever we get before we are both too tired to drive. Next stop (or maybe the first one) probably Mt. Rushmore National Monument (my choice and where in Hades else would you expect us to go with us heading North By Northwest), then onto Deadwood, SD (where Wild Bill was gunned down - Brendan's choice). That is so close to Sturgis, SD - I guess we will have to drive through and stop there at least for a brewski. 

After that, off to Shell Creek Campsite in Wyoming (a place three of my friends and I stopped on an epic road trip we made eons ago and where I caught a nice trout and took the coldest bath of my life in a snow melt stream and bled from my ears driving down to the town of Shell). Then - if we still have the time - off to see Yellowstone and or the Grand Tetons - just a quick view of what I missed the first time in the area and of something Brendan has never been near before. After that, it'll be us heading back to his place. 

A week just does not seem long enough - but maybe I can talk his boss into giving him three extra days or so, of unpaid time off, for this trip. Hell, I'll make up any lost pay for him if need be because dream trips like this don't come often. I should mention, if for some reason we wind up taking my car, I may drop him off in Denver for a flight home and then head on down the road somewhere further on from there with the pooch. I don't have a job I need to go back to - damn, retirement might be nicer than I had thought.

Returning The Stimulus Money - It's Probably As Difficult As I Had Thought

Lat week, or thereabout, I sent messages to both of my senators from Texas - Ted Cruz and John Cornyn. In those messages, I asked each of them how I could go about returning to the government the stimulus money that had been paid to my wife & I via unsolicited and unwanted direct deposit to our bank account. Ted Cruz has not yet replied and that was pretty much expected based on my past correspondence to him - he takes a long time to get back to his constituents. John Cornyn got back to me I think the same day to acknowledge receipt of my message. Yesterday, I got a second email from Cornyn, it appears in its full text below  - you can read it or not but if you do not care to read his blather ten allow me to just say that he did not at all address the specific issue I asked him about - returning the stimulus money to the government.

Dear Glenn:

Thank you for contacting me regarding recovery rebate checks. I appreciate having the benefit of your comments on these important matters.

I understand this is a time of serious uncertainty for both the physical and financial health of our nation. I want to assure Texans that Congress is committed to finding the best solutions to address the economic challenges many people are facing due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

As you know, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act (P.L. 116-136), provides direct payments of up to $1,200 for individual Americans. These recovery rebate checks will be distributed through the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).  Individuals with an adjusted gross income of $75,000 or less, and taxpayers who have filed as “head of household” with an income of $112,500 or less, who are not claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer and have a work-eligible Social Security Number, are eligible for the full $1,200 rebate. Households with children are also eligible to receive an additional $500 for each child if the parent’s or parents’ income qualifies, which is generally determined by the same rules in place for the Child Tax Credit.

For the vast majority of Americans, no action on their part will be required to receive a recovery rebate check since they will be based on the adjusted gross income reported on an individual or couple’s 2018 and 2019 tax returns. In addition, Social Security recipients who are not required to file a tax return and meet all of the other qualifications will receive their direct payments as they would normally receive their benefits. Yes he made reference to the stimulus payments in a broad political balderdash filled manner but he did not answer the very simple question, in essence: 'what official mechanism is in place to allow us to send the stimulus money back to the government'.

We do not need the money and we do not want to contribute to what almost certainly will be the super-high inflation and increased taxation that will slam the citizens and other tax payers of this country due to this idiotic stimulus plan that was only needed in the first place because of political panic over a disease that to date every politician has gotten most everything wrong about - including and especially shutting down our economy over it.

We may be the only two people in the country who are trying to give it back. Of course, if they tell me there is no mechanism to give it back, then we plan to keep it and give at least a decent percentage to charity. The rest, well we will split that and I would spend mine on goods made in the USA. I'll give them another week.

Damn - I Am Hankering For a Range Trip

The local indoor range, a few miles from my place is open; I know because I picked up a gun there and did the transfer earlier this week or was it Saturday last week. Whenever, they were open. As I was waiting for the paperwork to get done, a range officer went into the range to help another one fix a target hanger that I guess had come off the track or whatever. As they were working on it, them both a yard or two forward of the firing line, there was a guy on the first point putting his gear away. I watched on their surveillance monitor over the counter. I mentioned to the owner that the guy was handling his pistol while her employees were downrange. She looked and in essence said 'meh'; I watched some more and watched him load the pistol while kneeling on one knee and bent over it like no one would see him do it. I mentioned that he was loading it, she mumbled something and did not even glance up at the monitor. I don't think I'll be shooting there.

As for the outdoor range I go to, it's as bad or worse but sometimes no one else is there and then it's usually a good day for me. I may drive there tomorrow and shoot if I am the sole person there. Since it's in AR, it is probably open.

A Little Excitement At The Apartment Complex Last Night

I was walking the mongrel Skye last night and heard some banging noises like someone kicking or pounding on a door or maybe the dumpster. So, I turned around to take a look and saw a guy run away from the apartments. A very short time later, heard much the same thing and turned to go over that way to see what was going on and again saw a person, looked like the same one, run away from the apartments. This time though he hopped in a dark colored car a little ways up the block and they drove off. I did not see any damage anywhere and just kept walking Skye. 

We cut between our complex and one next to it and just my luck, there was the car (looked black in that light) parked in its lot, the car that I had just seen drive away. One guy got out, saw me, said something to me like what are you looking at. Another guy got out of the driver's side, looked me over and then one or both said something I did not understand and they got in the car and drove away. Skye and I walked though the parking lot to grassy area, and as best I recall across the street to just outside the local park. Soon, we went back the way we had come. Well, here comes that car again, driving by and into the lot of our apartment complex, they stopped in front of me (they may not have seen me at that point) and I stopped waiting to see what would happen. Then they just slowly drove away. 

We walked through the parking lot and headed across the street again, this time into the park and walked around for ten minutes or so. As we were walking in the driveway of our complex, back to our apartment, I heard what sounded like a gun shot, it was followed by two or three more (I am pretty certain it was another three). I called 911. 

 Gave it a few seconds and peeked around the corner of the buildings. Saw a small crowd and a guy standing atop an orange car. This was that car. 

Guy who was atop the car seemingly owned it. Saying something to the effect he had not been in his car when it was shot up and some other seeming blather. 

The police came by soon and interviewed some people and me too. Told them what I had seen and described the other car as best I could. They asked me to look at some pics later, showed me pics or video that came from someone's home surveillance system that overlooked our parking lot. A black car looking something like the one I had seen was in it but I could not say for sure it was the same car - the pics were supposedly from the time at or right after the shooting. 

I may need to look for a new apartment or maybe a house rental out in the country really soon.

Vortex Optics Get An A+ From Me

I had a pair of Vortex Vanquish 10X26 binoculars for many years. I got them from my emloyer sometime between 2002 and 2011 when I retired. As best I can recall, I got them around 2002 or 2003. Whenever, it does not really matter. What matters is that several years ago, one of the the loops built into the binocular body that holds the loop of the binocular strap broke off. Thus, no way to properly secure the binos to their strap. Oh well, I lived with it. I used this particular set of binoculars for work and after I retired for spotting game while hunting (yes the government let me keep them).

Last year, I bought my son a Vortex Crossfire II scope. At the time, I saw they had a lifetime warranty for just about anything that you did not do to them on purpose. I thought of the binoculars and seeing if they were covered but then as things went in my life I forgot all about that. Just recently I ordered a 4-12x50 Vortext Crossfire scope for myself and again was reminded of that warranty. I dug out the binoculars thinking of returning them to be repaired. I contacted Vortex Optics Customer Service; I explained how and when (more or less) I got them (as they were issued to me and I was allowed to keep them) and described the problem. They said send them in and they sent me a prepaid shipping label.

I sent them in and in almost no time, they sent me an email that said they had received the binoculars. While awaiting the return of my soon to be repaired binoculars, I bought another Vortex Crossfire II scope. I figured - why not since they were living up to their warranty of the binos. A few weeks later, I got another email saying the binoculars were on the way back to me; it was not exactly the truth but was not a lie either. I received a package from Vortex Optics today. The binoculars I sent to them were not in the box! Instead of my old pair, they sent me a letter explaining that the old ones could not be repaired. In with that letter was a brand new pair of the exact same model binoculars. To say that I am impressed would be an understatement. In truth, I am amazed. Vortex Optics just gained a very thankful and loyal customer. I am planning on buying at least two rifle scopes in the near future, they will both be Vortex Optics scopes without a doubt.

Revolution Of A Different Sort

Good morning fellow insomniacs and earthlings. I woke up this morning and looked at the time, it was 0255. I could not get back to sleep mostly because that is just the way it is sometimes but also because the mongrel Skye was snoring. I looked at Fox News and FB awhile on my phone; then went downstairs.
I thought of what to do and decided, what better to do than take pictures of my latest acquisition and show it off. It's a Sig Arms (must have been made around time of transition to Sig Sauer because it has Sig Sauer grips) GSR Revolution RCS, 1911 style, 45 caliber pistol in black stainless steel. I own only a few guns in SS but no others in black SS. It's not a full sized1911 but is a nice compact type; I think the barrel is 4 to4.5", will measure it later. It came with two magazines, the case and all papers including the original sales receipt from 2007. I had to pull of the price sticker to see it was manufactured April 6, 2007 (why seller's cover important info like that is beyond me). Anyway, the first down-payment by original buyer was made in May 2007 and he picked in up in June same year. The original price was $1049.99 plus tax; I got it for considerably less and it appears to be in pristine and possibly unfired condition. It may be the nicest looking pistol I own. I am debating making it a safe queen or shooting up a storm with it:

Now back to the sack; the bitch will be needing to go for a walk sometime between 0660 and 0700 and I need some sleep before then!

Anti-Tyranny Stew

 

Today I figured I cook a bit early and am making a beef stew - a spicy one at that. The ingredients are: a nicely marbled choice Angus Beef Chuck of about 3 pounds (chuck being the second best cut for a stew - prime rib-eye the best but too expensive most times), canola oil to brown the meat, salt to make it brown better, a Spaten Lager in which to stew, about a tablespoon of back pepper (a heaping one - maybe two regular ones), two heaping tablespoons of minced garlic in oil, a Serrano pepper minced, 2 fairly large sharp onions, about 1/2 a cup of onion flakes, 4 fairly large parsnips, 3 medium white turnips, about 1/4 of HB hefe weiss bier (not the 11.5 ounce size but the 16.9 ounce size - to add a bit more liquid; I am enjoying the rest of that now and had a Spaten earlier - I am getting sloshed today to celebrate The Shot Heard Round The World and the commencement of the American Revolution) and maybe a 1/4 cup of OJ. 

It is all cooking in a heavy duty aluminum pot left to me by my great-grandfather; he and my great-grandmother used to cook things like paprika chicken and goulash in it. It will be done in about 15 minutes. The meat is already quite tender, the veggies just about done and the aroma is exquisite and the waiting to eat it is torturous.

244 Years Later - Is It Time To Take Another Shot?

 


Today is the 244th anniversary of The Shot Heard Round The World (the commencement of the American Revolution at Lexington Green). Sometimes, I think it is high time for a second shot heard over the same expanse because of all of this socialistic, communistic, tyrannical oppression heaped upon our shoulders by the governors of many, but thankfully not all, our states and oft times by federal politicians. If that is not enough to trigger another such shot then I imagine we are doomed to wear the yoke of those who fawn for rule by tyrants and are enslaved by the false security they offer at the expense of our liberty. Liberty to exercise our right to overthrow tyrants, supported by our right to keep and bear arms, is the only thing that keeps us truly secure but we must exercise that liberty from time to time!

The Second Worst Thing About The Rona V

The worst part about it, other than that people have passed on from it, thus making it the second worst thing about it, is that this virus crisis may be the end of Donald Trump as president. I hope not but the libs are going to use everything they can against him and that means everything, even what they caused to make this crisis worse, will be blamed on him by them and people will fall for it on all sides of the political spectrum. I hope that logic prevails but then again the country voted in Jimmy Carter and Obummer so we may be doomed by this virus after all.
