...but I did tonight, to light a fire and imbibe some cheers in honor of Brendan. Man, I miss him and wish he was here but am more than happy for him that he is out on his own making it in the world. Like his sister Celina before him, I am very proud of him. My young ones have both turned out to be productive and great Americans.

Wow - Finally A Decent Deal From Verizon

I renewed a 2 year contract with Verizon for TV, Internet and landline phone. last year it was a royal pan in the arse as I dealt with a rep on the phone who fed me a line of BS saying I would pay so much and not lose any channels when I switched to their Extreme HD package. I had to phone and email a supervisor many-many times to get that straightened out without being charged a cancellation fee before they got it right. Anyway, today I renewed online. I discovered that to add only Cinemax to my channel lineup was an additional $10 (plus tax) - not bad. I almost went for it.

Then I checked out the Ultimate HD package. To add that was quite a bit more but when I added it, an item in my old contract, for which I had been paying extra, was removed because it was included under the new Ultimate HD package. With the Ultimate HD package, we will now be getting all of the same channels we had previously, plus we will get I think 14 Cinemax channels, plus several other channels we had not gotten before (a lot more sports channels of which one is about hunting and fishing and thus I will watch), and some new movie channels and others. Like my old plan, there is a $20 per month discount applied for the entire 24 months. All in all, the new plan with many more channels (including Cinemax) is going to run me a total of $10.29 additional to what I paid under the old contract - and that is not a bad deal at all.

Fire In The Hole and Some Tequila Shots...

...sounds like a good way to spend at least part of my night tonight. Now don't take me wrong, my use of fire in the hole has nothing to do with arms and gunpowder, I was thinking more along the lines of fire in the pit - the fire pit. Once I get that blazing nicely, I am thinking of having a couple of few lemonades laced with vodka or better yet some tequila shots in the lemonade or on the side of straight up lemonade. I would invite someone to come over but am without anyone to invite.

So, yes, I will be drinking alone - well, sort of, kind of, more or less. You see, I will not be alone, at least in spirit. I plan to dedicate my bit of debauchery tonight to the best drinking buddy I have ever had - my son Brendan. For that matter, I am going to imagine he is right there with me belting em down. Miss him too much now that he moved to AR.

Bill Garza For Otero County, NM Sheriff

I do not live in Otero County, NM but if I did you could safely bet that I would vote for Bill Garza for county sheriff. I was in federal law enforcement for 32 years plus a little and I can definitely say, from what I know of serving the people, Bill is, in my opinion, the right man for the job. Wherever you live, you may want to consider dropping a buck his way in the form of a campaign contribution; I imagine any bit would help. I do not give endorsements lightly nor do I usually consider asking people to make political contributions to anyone in a local election let alone a man I have never met in person. Yet, I can do so with the faith that Bill can get the job done and do it right because of what I know of him, his wife Jen and the rest of their wonderful family.

While I know them only through contact via the Internet by way of my blog, Jen's blog, Facebook (as of late) and correspondence we have sent to one another via email, they have become dear friends of mine. That was possible in that manner because of the amazing way by which they stood with me and helped battle stage 4 throat cancer back in 2011. Their moral support and prayers for me, the support they garnered for me from folks like them around the world - it made me realize these were good patriotic Americans and simply very amazing and generous folks who were willing to help out a total stranger based on their own way of life. 

Then there were the stories of their family struggles: Bill is a retired but (I am pretty sure) pension-less law enforcement officer due to an on the job injury that did not allow him to continue working. The injury came before he was vested in any sort of pension, including disability (if any of this is wrong I will correct it as soon as Jen straightens me out and I am sure she will if I got any wrong). Thus they faced financial difficulties and other hardships 
in the state where Bill had been employed as a LEO. 

They overcame all that by way of their faith in God, their faith in and love for one another and by their determination to find a place to which they could relocate on a shoestring budget and start all over again. They found a home in New Mexico, built it up from what was not more than a good sized shack on an almost barren dirt patch to a wonderful home and farm/ranch and have succeeded in their dream of making it on their own. I really do mean essentially on their own too, it is amazing the things they accomplished with little or no help from anyone but themselves. All the while they raised 4 wonderful children who have all become patriotic and contributing adult members of society. Now Bill and Jen are grandparents too. They have shared many of their experiences and their accomplishments by way of Jen's defunct blog Pen of Jen and also by way of her current blog Double Nickel Farm.  

Everything I know of them leads me to believe that people like Bill  (and Jen too if she ever decides to run for office) are the ones we want in government service whether it be as sheriff, mayor, county executive, governor of a state or representative in Congress. I wish him all the luck in world in the election and offer my whole hearted endorsement to him.

Isn't It About Time That All 50 States...

...require food stamp and welfare recipients to find legitimate private sector employment, otherwise work for the state on public works projects, or do some sort of valid and verifiable community service. After reading this article, that claims food stamp rolls have declined drastically in states that have required such, I am convinced it would work everywhere. Of course, librturds and other leftists will oppose such and I am certain that politicians of the Democrat ilk will oppose it too if only because  at least some of their once worthless constituents will possibly realize working is better for a living that gouging the system and that the right had it right all along.

It Galls Me To The Point Of Wanting To Go Out And...

...become an avenger of sorts. No I am not about to do it. You nor anyone else will not find me stealthily prowling the streets of NYC looking for a thug to blow away but I have to say that the assassination of NYPD Police Officer Miosotis Familia (more here) has given me more pause to think about doing some Paul Kersey kind of things. I am not saying that lightly either, it is no joke, there is an urge within me to go out and hunt down dirtbag criminals and just pull out a piece and start shooting because it has become way, way, way too much. The killing innocent citizens, including the targeting of police officers, has just gotten that rampant in our society that something urgent and extreme must be done to combat it. Again though, I must say, it is only an urge and not one to which I will succumb since am in essence a law abiding citizen but man oh man do I feel it in my gut.

So, to say that I am happy that the gunman was shot down and killed like a rabid dog would be a gross understatement. The way it turned out, there is no need for incarceration while awaiting trial at taxpayer expense, no need for a defense attorney at taxpayer expense, no need to go through all the criminal court proceedings at taxpayer expense, no need for appeals lasting years all at taxpayer expense,  no need for long term incarceration and all that comes with it like three square meals a day and maybe also a sex change operation should he decide to change his gender at tax payer expense. No need for the taxpayer to pay a penny for that piece of shit criminal.

Of course, along those same lines, I am quite dismayed that a passerby, apparently an innocent bystander, was wounded in the shootout between NYPD officers and the assassin of PO Familia. I am hopeful it was not due to a bullet fired by an officer but the odds are probably pointing at making the case simply because so many more of them were firing.

My heartfelt condolences to the family of Officer Familia including the three children she left behind. She and they are in my thoughts and prayers. As you pray for the family of PO Familia, do not forget to pray for the bystander who was also wounded.

Man Shoots Daughter While Teaching Gun Safety

A man who was supposedly teaching his two sons about firearms safety allegedly pulled the trigger of his pistol and fired a shot that killed his young daughter. (Source.)

What a shame. I have to wonder if drugs were involved because I find it difficult to believe anyone could be that stupid unless under the influence. I mean that not so much that he may have accidentally and negligently fired the shot but that he allegedly repeatedly exercised extremely poor judgment in handling the pistol leading up to the fatal shot. His actions seemingly paved the way to her death. The nine year old son reportedly said the father had pointed the gun at him and at his brother repeatedly, this allegedly during a lesson about firearms safety. Then he reportedly shot his daughter and claimed he did not know the gun was loaded! It is mind boggling to think someone not under the influence of mind altering drugs was as brainless as to do all that.


My condolences go out to the rest of the family.

Took A Walk To My Local FFL Today...

...to pick up some ammo. In NY state, when we order online, ammo was supposed to have been sent to a dealer instead of we untrustworthy peons receiving it directly, that as per the NY UnSAFE Act. Yes, I know, some dealers will deliver it directly because the part of the law requiring ammo be delivered to a dealer kind of went down the toilet. That was because it also required a background check each time you ordered ammo and NY state probably found out it was illegal to run federal NCIC or NICS checks on us just for ammo purchases (and I know that it is illegal for a fact). Still, some dealers refuse to send it directly to the customer and PSA, the dealer from whom I purchased my ammo, is one of them. The thing is though, I could not beat or match the price elsewhere for CCI Mini-Mags in the amount I ordered so I ordered from them.

Anyway, as I was saying, I took a walk from home to the FFL to get the ammo. The distance each way was 1.2 miles, not far by almost anyone's standards but maybe a bit of a hike for a fat boy like me. Then again, I often walk up to 4 to 5 miles in a day so for me in particular it was a nice stroll. It was even a nicer stroll because I was pushing my grandson, of almost10 months, in his stroller in front of me.

We got to the store and I told the proprietor I had something to trade for ammo and indicated my grandson. It was amusing, at least to us. He gave me my ammo, did not charge me the $10 the NY SAFE Act allows him to charge for the transfer (nor did he confiscate my grandson) and then held the door open for us but only after trying to get a rise out of RJ. (Ryan John - I am the only one who calls him RJ at the peril of my life cause my daughter hates it when I do so.) I made RJ laugh and all was well. The 2,000 rounds of 22LR ammo was dumped into the bottom of the stroller and off we went. The walk home was a little longer, maybe by 1/4 to 1/2 of a mile more because we stopped in a couple more stores and we had to go out of our way to get to the second of those but that was okay as I was enjoying it. By then, RJ was out cold so it did not matter to him how much further we walked.

So why bring him along to pick up my ammo? Well it was good incentive for me to walk instead of drive and I am somewhat of a fat body in need of some exercise and taking him for a walk got me going. It was also my way of introducing my first grandson to the world of shooting and to start to mold him as a stalwart of the RKBA (right to keep and bear arms). No, it meant nothing to his young mind today but maybe after enough trips like this with gunga gramps it will start to sink in by osmosis!

Pregnant Woman Runs Down Purse Snatcher...

...to retrieve her purse. No not afoot; although, she tried to catch him on foot, then jumped into her SUV and literally ran him down with her vehicle. He was run down, injured and arrested and is being charged with charged with felony breaking and entering, larceny, and misdemeanor damage to property. The sad part is that the driver was also arrested and was charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon. (Source.)

If it all happened as reported, I think that the alleged dirtbag thief got what I believe he deserved and it should have been left at that. While I believe it wonderful, I must advise anyone from emulating the woman who ran him down since it is not legal in any way shape or form to do what it was she was alleged to have done under the reported circumstances. I am sure (my opinion) she was aware of such but think it absolutely amazing how those raging hormones during pregnancy can affect a woman.

The saddest part is that he probably will sue her and win a large tort claim.

Asleep At The Helm?

If what the captain of the ACX Crystal container ship is saying is true (and that is a big if) then it seems as if whoever was at the helm of the United States' guided missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald may have been proverbially asleep at the helm.


"In the first detailed account from one of those directly involved, the cargo ship’s captain said the ACX Crystal had signaled with flashing lights after the Fitzgerald “suddenly” steamed on to a course to cross its path.


The container ship steered hard to starboard (right) to avoid the warship, but hit the Fitzgerald 10 minutes later at 1:30 a.m., according to a copy of Captain Ronald Advincula’s report to Japanese ship owner Dainichi Investment Corporation that was seen by Reuters." (Source.)


Whether or not that is the unvarnished truth remains to be seen. It may be considered somewhat questionable in light of the fact that the container ship reportedly steamed on for another 6 miles before making a U-turn to go back to the scene of the collision and the captain reportedly did not contact authorities about the collision until one hour had passed. Something it seems to me is not right about that. Of course, a tardy report and steaming on after the collision may have little or nothing to do with the veracity of the captain's statement that his ship had warned the destroyer before the collision and that the destroyer maintained course regardless of the warning. Being that there are currently six ongoing investigations, it may take some time to fathom it all out but one has to hope that the truth is gotten to in the end to avoid such a terrible tragedy in the future and to give the families of the fallen sailors some sort of peace.

If you are into shooting 22LR ammo at all, you know that prices had been sky high under Obama and that said ammo was often almost impossible to acquire for much of his reign term. Availability has increased and prices have come down some, in fact it is almost regularly available now for under 5 cents per round for what I consider average quality ammo.

Then there is somewhat higher quality 22LR ammunition such as CCI Mini Mags. It has always been higher quality and thus more expensive than the average and lower quality options out there but it was ridiculously priced while Obama was in office if available at all. Right now you can get a box of 100 rounds of it for $7.99 (down from a very recent price of $9.99 at most reasonable dealers) or you can order 1,000 rounds of it for $79.99 and receive free shipping. This deal is being offered by Palmetto State Armory, or at least it was being offered yesterday, for 36 grain hollow point and 40 grain round nose Mini Mags. That is not a bad deal at all considering recent prices. Now you may want to wait while hoping the price goes don more but me, I placed my order last night. That should put my 22LR tock back up to the inventory amount I had before I visited Brendan down in AR and brought him a veritable cornucopia of my ammo stores.

To me it seems more like a fairy tale than a rumor but as they say "fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you, if you're young at heart". Johnny Depp - You Made It A Lot More Than A Question

It's been reported that the American actor Johnny Depp recently said the following to an English audience:

“It is just a question, I’m not insinuating anything… When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?” 

He reportedly then went on to say:

“Now I want to clarify, I’m not an actor. I lie for a living. However, it’s been a while, and maybe it’s time.” (Source.)

Yes, if he indeed actually said those things, it started out with what might have been just a question but ended up with what I consider a definite insinuation and that obviously was that maybe it's time for an actor to kill a president. To that, all I can rhetorically reply is: 'When was the last time a president killed an actor - maybe it's time - are you willing to be the one Mr. Depp'. No, I do not wish Johnny Depp and physical harm and do not want to instigate any sort of violence against him; however, I have had enough of leftist shits like him skirting around the issue of assassinating our president. I consider Depp to have committed professional suicide by making those statements if he in fact made them. So, I will say one more thing about it: Johnny Depp can screw himself bloody for eternity before I ever watch another movie in which he plays a role.

As for the English, I am not amazed that those hypocrites did not arrest and deport him for much the same reason they barred Michael Savage from ever entering their country again (source). The difference between the two, one is an apparent leftist and instigator of violence and one is a good moral man. I guess, all that matters to the English government loonies is that they protect the leftists - so they have allowed the scumbag actor Johnny Depp to freely roam their country while barring an American patriot like Michael Savage.

My New Guns Over The Last Year And A Half

I was working on my firearms inventory this evening, not on paper yet but just getting all of my ducks rifles lined up in a row. As I was doing so, it dawned on me that I have picked up quite a few new guns in the course of the last year and a half, so I decided to see exactly how many that had been accumulated from January 2016 though June 2017. I was a bit surprised at how many I had added to my armory inventory. When you buy one or two one month, then another one a month or two later and keep going like that, they tend to add up. Luckily for me I had to miss the last Hessney Rod & Gun auction up in Geneva, NY because I am almost literally broke. After my next pension check and once all my bills are paid, I will have about $65.00 cash to last the month. That sucks but it is keeping me from buying any other guns right now and that just by itself is okay by me. I need to sell one or three to get to the point where I can afford to go to another auction and fortunately for me, the next one up in Geneva is not until September.

I used to by pistols a bit more often. That was when I could get them at the Hessney Auction without it being a pain in my arse. That was once upon a time when my county PD would issue a purchase document prior to a sale (fill in after the sale and return to them). They stopped doing that so now it would necessitate another trip to Geneva after an auction. I would have to bring the receipt for the gun to my county PD, they would give me a purchase document, and I would have to bring that back to the auction company to pick up the gun NY sucks). So no I have to just about always buy locally or online unless I get a really excellent deal somewhere.

As for long guns, when I looked over what I had bought and the order in which I had bought them, I realized I kind of stuck to a promise I had made myself. The promise was that I would start bidding seriously on some more higher end items than I had been doing before. Thus, at the past three auctions I attended between February 2017 and April 2017, I wound up picking up four nicer rifles and only one sort of a knock around clunker of a truck gun. Now granted, condition is everything and I have to say that three of the four nicer guns are in great condition. The CZ Model 527 Varmint Thumbhole was unfired in the box and the Ruger Ranch Rifle was auctioned 'as new' but it sure looked to me to be unfired and was also in the box with all accessories and papers. The Marlin 36 is in very good to excellent shape and probably has 85 to 90% of its case color remaining on the receiver and lever. The Remington 141 is not in as great shape but it still is in very good condition. It has what appears to be a factory repair to the butt stock (a piece of wood removed and replaced with another piece maybe 1" square or so and it is fit so well that I missed it when I first looked the gun over); still though a very nice piece.

The truck gun is the Springfield 944 Shotgun. It has a fair amount of painted on finish missing on the receiver and has a hairline crack in the fore stock (I missed that out of sheer neglect, never looked it over that well since I was only going to bid a small amount on it and anyway I doubt it detracts much from the value). Anyway, I got that for just what I said, a sort of knock around clunker gun.  Even getting the Springfield was part of my prior made plans - not to merely get some higher end guns but to also bid on some of the lower end guns at the end of the auction that I could probably get for a song - then have fun with at the range and then sell sooner or later, without any seller's remorse, after tiring of them.

I keep looking the list over and I have realized I am pretty much a gun buying junkie. With that in mind, I have a few of my guns up for sale right now. Just sold my Steven's Model 66B about a week or so ago. Did not get much for it, probably right around what I paid for it but I had some funs with it in the years I had it. I need room for my new ones and cash to fill that empty spot in my pocket that was created mostly since February through April when I bought those 5 guns I just mentioned. Once I get some more cash, I can buy some more guns. Gotta love a free market and the RKBA and having the cash to enjoy them.

Today Has Been A Good Day But Yesterday Was Excellent

I have had a nice day so far today. Went to the credit union to cash a windfall check and now have money for the weekend with a decent amount left over to help pay bills. To give my wife a break, I took my grandson for a walk, about two and a half or three miles and we also stopped at the playground for some fun time there. After that, I replaced the butt stock on one of my Remington 870s with a police folding stock I have had for decades. I was only able to do that because the screw I ordered for it arrived today and it fit. Oh happy days. Checked my blood pressure after that and it was 178/82, I was ecstatic. My new BP med must be working. I also just found out, I am getting the holiday pay I should have gotten for Memorial Day, it was somehow overlooked in my last paycheck. More money for the weekend and to pay bills.

Yesterday though was a truly excellent day. I  received that check that I wound up cashing today. That was nice, the check arrived sooner than expected. That of course is not what made the day excellent. My son knows why. He is the only person besides my wife and two close friends in whom I had confided that I found a lump in my neck. In fact, I had told him the moment I found the lump, that was weeks ago when I was visiting him in Arkansas. Did not really mean to do it just blurted it out when I found it. Sorry my boy to put you through weeks or a month of anxiety to find out if it was cancer again or not. That brings me to why yesterday was such an excellent day, I got the PET Scan results yesterday. Brendan is the first one I contacted about the results and he was quite happy to hear the result and there is no way I can tell him how much I appreciate his concern for his old man.

Yes, of course you can figure the results were excellent. All was good, I am clear - no sign of cancer having returned. To tell you the truth, I do not know if I could have faced off against that demon a second time, it was that bad the first time. To my son and my two friends, thanks for worrying about me and I was very happy to tell you I am okay. No I did not include the wife there just now, she had told me it was nothing. So, I have to admit she was right and say thanks for that. I also have to say special thanks to her for caring too because even though she tried to make it seem worry free, I know she was concerned for me as much as she says she cannot stand me. I know that because the first time around, she was there for me.

You may also have realized, I did not tell my daughter nor son-in-law. Celina and Phil just got married a second time, this time in a Catholic church because Ryan John (their son and my grandson) is going to be Christened this coming Sunday. Why should I have worried them; in fact had the test results been bad, I would not have even told them then. This is their time to be happy at a special time for their first born. Why would I want to have ruined that. I thank them for bringing that little bundle of joy into my life.

I also have to thank my online friend Jen and her family. I recently asked her to do me a favor - that she and her family pray for me but I did not tell her why. I did not want prayers expecting prayer to change what the scan results would be - I knew I either had cancer again or not. I wanted and needed prayers because I did not know how I would react if I got bad news again. Really, as I said above, I do not know if I could face up to that demon cancer again and the battle that would ensue to defeat it - fighting stage 4 cancer really was that bad the first time. So, I wanted prayers to help me through it should I find out the worst. Jen and her family, and her online friends around the world, made a lot of difference the first time around. She had people around the globe praying for me, lighting candles for me, sending me well wishes - me who is an agnostic at best and those prayers helped give me the boost I needed to fight hard enough and long enough to beat down the demon cancer. You cannot imagine how much help a stranger can be until someone like she steps into the fray. I am not sure I believe in God, an Almighty Being, Mother Nature or The Force if you will, but I do believe in good and evil and I do believe in demons . Stage 4 cancer is one of the worst forms of evil. As for good personified, you can find it in Jen and her family - they are amazingly nice and caring folks and while we have never met face to face I consider them dear friends. They are the good that can overcome evil, they are among my guardian angels just like my family is to me.

Yesterday I realized something again that I have not thought about in awhile. That terrible battle I waged against the cancer - by sticking with all the treatments and never giving up despite the chemo doc telling me it would be the hardest thing I have ever or will ever do in my life - that battle was worth it. Heck, I am still here surrounded by loving family and friends and good folks like Jen and her family. That my friends has made it all worthwhile.

I wonder, did yesterday being that excellent have anything to do with it being the last day (or last 24 minutes) of Spring and the first day of Summer - the Summer Solstice. Maybe that had something to do with it too, maybe there was some of Mother Nature's magic in the mix, or the Force being there for me or God blessing me with grace (although I cannot imagine why). Whatever, it was just excellent for me. I know now that I have the chance to see my son again and to go fishing with him and tell him I love him, to see and enjoy my grandson growing older and share good times with him, to enjoy watching my daughter and son-in-law as young first time parents and give them grandfatherly tips from grumpus (me), and to live life a little longer with the woman I married much to her chagrin ;>).

Wow Talk About Amazing Shooting - New World Record 2.2 Mile Kill

A Canadian sniper has set a new world record shot (which reportedly has been confirmed), by sending an enemy to meet his however many virgin goats, from 2.2 miles away. That is truly amazing. As the linked article says, more credit is probably due to his spotter than to the shooter but I think they both deserve a few icy cold beers for that (plus a promotion and a raise and all the advertising opportunities than can make from it).
