If They Elect A Real Leader - Why Can't We?
Israel has reelected Prime Minister Benjamin (Bibi) Netanyahu to a third term as the leader of Israel and some would argue, as the leader of the free world. That title, you may remember, used to belong to the Commander & Chief of the United States of America but was lost, in dribs and drabs, somewhere along the way over the past 14 or 15 years. As far as I cam concerned, we now have a pussified, communist, socialist, ultra leftist wannabe tyrant running the White House and trying to ruin what remains of our once great republic. Obama could certainly learn a lesson in leadership from Mr. Netanyahu.
What was said in the above video is so true it makes me want to cry for America. We apparently really do have the most chicken-shit president one could imagine.
All the best,

The Rattlesnake As A Symbol Of America...
...is ultimately and completely appropriate. Any reference to rattlesnakes as a symbol for ISIS is not only less than respectful of rattlers and of America but also a bit of totally inappropriate, while probably unintentional, praise of the dirtbag terrorists within ISIS.
Recently, I read again, a piece declaring that ISIS is akin to the rattlesnake and therefore that it is about time we treat them as such and in essence annihilate them. It sickens me to hear any American degrade the creature that suits America perfectly or at least better as its national symbol than did the Bald Eagle ever do so. If you'd like to know why, you can read this current Internet version of a piece written by an anonymous author in the 1770's (now attributed to Benjamin Franklin by the site at the link but that, in my understanding, may still be contested). Allow me to point out that the linked version seems to me to be somewhat different in some points than what I remember of the version I originally saw in the book Snakes on the natural history of snakes by an acclaimed herpetologist way back in my very young youthful days. I particularly reference the blurb about an incomplete rattle button representing Canada; I do not recall that in any way shape or form being included in the version I originally read all those years ago (way to close to the time it was written as far as I am concerned).
Yes, I am snake-wise, so to speak, and I realize that some things said about the rattlesnake in that linked treatise are not exactly correct when looked at in the light of today's knowledge about them. The thing is that it was written in the 1770's and probably was spot on as far as herpetological knowledge went back then. Anyway, even if the author knew he (or she) was taking some liberties with rattlesnake facts, the gist of the analogy of America to the rattlesnake is indisputable in the light of those and current times (at least pre-Obama). Thus, any comparison of a rattler to ISIS, is at the very best far fetched, ill informed, balderdash that does little more than give comfort to our enemy!
That America and her patriots are like the rattlesnake has long been American lore, from the 1770s all the way up through the music of groups like The Grateful Dead and through the renewed current zeal for use of patriotic symbolism as the Gadsden Flag. If you have any doubt, of rattlers being equated to America in the modern world, then just pay particular attention to the first two lines of the third stanza of Uncle John's Band:

| The Gadsden Flag - A Truer Symbol of America Has Never Been |
That America and her patriots are like the rattlesnake has long been American lore, from the 1770s all the way up through the music of groups like The Grateful Dead and through the renewed current zeal for use of patriotic symbolism as the Gadsden Flag. If you have any doubt, of rattlers being equated to America in the modern world, then just pay particular attention to the first two lines of the third stanza of Uncle John's Band:
If any of you still think that it is proper to compare ISIS and rattlesnakes as being akin to one another symbolically or in fact, all I can think is shame on you, you fucking leftist peckerwoods. Please note that I respectfully withheld such a statement until I provided evidence to the contrary of such a belief and you had plenty of opportunity to rethink your stand. With all due respect, I am hopeful that any American patriots, who once believed that ISIS and rattlesnakes were alike, have now had a change of heart and that I have not offended anyone among them.

Come Hell Or Fairly High Water Ammo Storage
NOTE: This post has been corrected, on May 13, 2015, to show that the ammo cans were in fact PA154 and not PA120 ammo cans as I had originally but mistakenly stated. That they were meant for 120mm mortars was correct.
The dogs started howling a few minutes ago and then doorbell rang. That could mean only a few things, either my door was about to get busted down by some federal agency raiding my house because they figured out I'd have the location of my where to find my ammo cache written on paper around here somewhere, or someone was looking to solicit donations for a good cause (or rip-off of the day), or UPS was delivering a package. I hauled my ass up stairs but by the time I got to the door there was the UPS truck driving off into wherever they drive off to. Didn't matter, as usual, the UPS guy left the box on my front stoop.
I knew right away what was in the 3'x1'x1' box that UPS had left for me. I 'd been expecting an order from Military Shooters and this was undoubtedly it. I hefted it up into my arms, think it must have weighed about 40-45 pounds, and carried the package down into my basement. As I was walking through my living room, I had the thought I had best get them out of sight before my wife or mother-in-law see them and my wife was at work. I don't know why I thought that, my wife is okay with me buying guns, ammo and accessories but I sure felt like I was guilty of something. Once down in the false sense of security offered by the man-cave, I grabbed the Victorinox Hunstman out of my pocket, pulled out the long blade and went to work on the packing tape. The first glance I got of the contents of the box had me smiling. I pulled the uppermost one out, opened it up, took a quick look at it and was a happy camper. I grabbed up the second one that was in the box and also gave it a quick lookover and was pleased with what I saw. My PA154 120mm ammo cans had arrived in very good, if not excellent, condition from the look of them.
They appear to each be capable of holding at least as much ammo as four 50 caliber ammo cans. Of course, if someone were to load up one of these monsters with four 50 caliber ammo cans worth of ammo, you probably would need two people to lift it to carry it any distance. And to think, each can only held two each of the 120mm white phosphorous smoke mortars which they were originally intended to hold or so it indicates on the can. They have more stuff printed on them than any other ammo cans I have seen before, the only section of the exterior of either can that does not have something written on it is the bottom. Even the underside of each lid has numbers spray painted on them.
These cans do not have the same types of lids found on the smaller 50 or 30 caliber ammo cans, the ones that are hinged. Instead, these cans have lids that come off completely. I know that the lids on the smaller cans can also come off completely but the point is these lids are not hinged like those of the smaller cans. There is the typical lever type locking device, one at each end, and when you release them the lid lifts off completely. The lids on these ammo cans do not have handles either. You wouldn't be able to lift them very effectively even if they did have them. Rather than handles on the lids, there are two handles on the body of each of the cans.
Once of the cans held a trivial bonus but it was a bonus nonetheless. There was what looked like a small divider inside the can. It's merely a piece of plywood, with two holes drilled through it, that was cut to fit the inner dimensions of the can. For all I know it held the two mortar shells in place inside the can. While it is worth all of 25 cents at the most, it gave me the idea that I should make a few more of them using that one as a template. They will come in handy as dividers for whatever I store inside.
For now, I have no idea what I will be putting inside of each of these cans, most of the little bit of ammo I do have is in my 50 caliber cans. I have to point out that when empty, since they are so tall but only about the same in depth and width as a 50 caliber ammo can, these PA154 cans are top heavy and can get knocked over easily. I tend to think that once full, the tilt risk would not be as much of a worry but I would still make sure to take it into consideration because if one of these cans full of ammo fell over onto you, it might break a bone and certainly could kill or seriously injure a young child or a pet. So, I think, I will still be careful to store them on a flat level spot on a hard surfaced floor as I do not need one landing on my foot or atop one of our Chihuahuas.
At last check, just moments ago as I type, Military Shooters still had 28 two packs of these remaining in stock. They are currently asking $22.99 for a two-pack plus shipping. If you are considering placing an order, go here. I have dealt with Military Shooters a few times now and like them. They sometimes have had things in stock that I could not find elsewhere and sometimes they have great prices too. I saw these same cans elsewhere at up to $75 (for a three-pack) plus shipping and the shipping was considerably more expensive, as I recall at about $50. Shipping from MS to me was about $32. I will mention that it took almost two weeks from the date of my order on March 4 until today for me to receive the order. That is not a complaint from me, just letting you know about how long it might take from start to finish if you decide to place an order.
I should also mention, I think they have excellent customer service even though they appear to be a small mom & pop business (and I mean that literally). When I received an email from UPS with my tracking information for this order, I noticed that the email said the shipment was shown as "**ORM-D SMALL ARMS AMMUNITION**". In order for ammo to be shipped to me legally, here in NY, it must go through an FFL. It would be just my luck someone at UPS, with a hard-on for gun owners, would have seen that on the package, realized it was being shipped to a residence, and would have contacted the police about it. I don't need them even knocking on my door to inquire about it, let alone them storming my home with a search warrant all because the shipping info was wrong, so I contacted Military Shooters and expressed my concerns about it. Fred Stecher, who I am pretty sure is the owner, got back to me early the very next day to let me know he contacted UPS to let them know the shipment did not contain ammo.
I don't get anything from Military Shooters for this post; I wrote up these cans and mentioned them mostly as a way to share a good deal with my readers and to say thanks to Military Shooters for having good deals and for doing a good job on yet another order. I don't use any ammo dealer exclusively as I prefer to spread my business around but they have once again assured they will keep me as a happy customer over the long run. A hat tip and my thanks to them for this order.
Gotta go, the hounds are howling again, who knows what I'll find on my doorstep this time.
All the best,
Glenn B

The Military Shooters website said these cans are in excellent condition and show "NO RUST". One of the first things I noticed on each of the cans I received was rust. There was not a lot of it, and what was there was pretty minimal surface rust, but there definitely was rust. However, if the seals on these cans are good, I think they are worth more than what I paid for them (which was a total of $54.89 shipped). According to Military Shooters, the seals are all good. They look good to me but who can tell at a glance if they will be water tight. Since I am not planning on burying these cans, or storing them laid down on their sides, I don't think it will matter all that much. I mean even if the seals turn out bad, come hell or fairly high water, the contents are not about to get wet unless I store them lying down. The darned things are 31 3/4" tall with the lids secured. As for their other dimensions, each is 11" wide by 5 5/8" deep. Note, those measurements are of the main body of the cans and exclude the wider measurements of the lids and or ridges on the cans. Considering the ridges on the cans they wind up being about 7"deep and considering the lids and locking devices, they are abut 12 1/2" wide.

Got Your Own Website - Let Me Pick Your Brains
Here I go again, toying with the idea of getting my own website on which to post my blog, instead of staying here at Blogger. I must admit that Blogger has its advantages, perhaps the primary one being it is free (at least dollar-wise). Being on Blogger also has its disadvantages, one of the main ones being that they can delete my blog whenever they choose without warning and I would lose anything I have not backed-up (which would be at least a month's worth of blogging right now as I poke away at the keyboard).
With that in mind, I am curious to hear from those of my readers who have their own websites. I'd like to know what you guys think are some of the advantages of having your own site to host your blog and I'd also like to know what are some of the disadvantages.
Please also let me know if you own the domain name and web address for your site and if so, is there something extra that needs to be done to assure that as opposed to the web-hosting company owning the rights to your domain name and address. Along that line, what companies offer, BS free, web hosting plans that guarantee that you own your domain name and web address? As far as cost, I am looking to spend no more than about $15 per month but would pay somewhat higher if that is par for the course. So, anything you can share with me along those lines would be helpful.
All the best,
Glenn B

I Have Been Shitting My Pants All Week...
...and while I have done it quite literally a few times, I mean it more so figuratively. In fact, going figuratively, I guess I have been doing it for a few weeks now. I had a biopsy on Monday that originally was scheduled about 2 or was it 3 weeks earlier. Had to cancel the earlier appointments because I was sick with a chest infection. Got over that, or so we thought, and went in on Monday for a biopsy of my prostate gland. I truly was figuratively shitting myself thinking I was going to be told I have cancer again.
Well, Monday and the biopsy came and on Monday night I was in agony up mine arse and in my groin and I was exhausted. Called my doc, spoke to his partner who told me that is not normal and who then prescribed me Vicodan. I had a fever Monday night and lots of pain and took one Vicodan which helped. Once the fever broke the pain had pretty much disappeared. Pretty much as in I was still in pain but nowhere nearly as bad.
Tuesday had me feeling somewhat better because almost no pain all day but I was still fatigued. Wednesday arrives and with it the pain came back, not as bad as Monday but pretty darned bad. The fatigue remained and in fact got worse. Late Wednesday night the cold sweats came on and I guess so did the fever. Thursday was agony for me, was feverish on and off three or four times and had pretty bad pain in my groin and was totally spent and began painfully hacking away and blowing blood out of my nose.
On Friday, the doc's offices calls me to tell me the biopsy result, but the nurse first asked how I was feeling. I explained the situation which had improved somewhat pain-wise since Thursday night but not by much, all else being fairly equal except there was no fever. She forgot all about the results and told me to get my ass to their office. My wife drove me in.
Once at the office, the doc examined me, then had my wife come in, to tell us I needed to get to the ER ASAP. I said my wife would drive me but he insisted that he call an ambulance and that they take me. Okay, I caved. The cops arrived (he called 911 not an ambulance company) and were soon followed by an ambulance. They took me into the ER and I was there from about 3PM through 10 or 11PM. It took six hours before I saw an actual doctor. Saw a bunch of nurses and others, was put into isolation because some idiot asked me if I had any contact with people from Ebola countries in Africa to which I had to answer yes but also said that I had no idea if any of them had been in Africa recently. That started a whole chain of events that was unbelievably comical - the first one being how the seven or eight folks tending to me when I first arrived all sort of slid away in a wave to the other side of the hallway. Then the administrator who came by to check on the 'Ebola' guy was asking a nurse about me while leaning her fat ass on my gurney. When the nurse told her "by the way, he's right behind you" you could virtually hear her heart skip several beats and it amazed me how with a stopped heart she could push right through that gang of nurses and the like to get as far across the hall from me as possible.
I wound up in isolation soon after that, which was a good thing. Isolation = Private Room in the ER with my own TV. After all that, I was finally diagnosed as being dehydrated and having bronchitis (maybe I never got over that chest infection from a couple of weeks before or maybe I caught something in the hospital). Doc said it also sounded like I had had an infection in my prostate (biopsy site) but that it cleared up before I got to hospital. I was surprised he admitted that much since the biopsy had been done at that same hospital. He also informed me I have chronic lung damage which no other chest x-ray (including the pre-surgical one by the same hospital) had ever revealed before; I'll have to have my regular doc look into that. Bottom line they cut me loose with my now fourth prescription for antibiotics within a few weeks. Those previous prescriptions plus two antibiotic shots they gave me the day of the biopsy wiped out all the good bugs in my innards. Man, it was as if I hadn't literally, not figuratively, shit my pants more than enough this past week and they were giving me more to assure I won't have a solid for months to come.
The good news in all of this was that the biopsy was negative. Man, it was scary as all hell thinking that they were going to tell me I had cancer again and the figurative (not literal) shitting my pants I had done, waiting for the results, had really worn me out. I don't know which was worse, shitting my pants for real or the figurative type and I did more than enough of both. I guess though it had to be the latter. Anyway, I am pretty sure the diagnosis helped me recover, that along with the two or three sacks of fluid they pumped into me yesterday. I am still feeling pretty crappy (had to say it) and blogging will be minimal for at least a couple more days.
There it is, the reason I have not blogged since last Sunday, just in case you were wondering if I had fallen off the face of the earth or anything like that.

Squeezing The Trigger Means...
...just that - that you squeeze the trigger. Since you are supposed to operate the trigger with one finger, under normal circumstances, you are supposed to squeeze it with your trigger finger. Did you ever notice though that when some folks learn how to shoot they squeeze not only the trigger but the whole grip of the pistol as if they were trying to squeeze the juice out of a lemon when all they had to do was to slowly bend the index finger back to exert pressure on or squeeze the trigger. Here is a perfect example shown in a gif-file that I am guessing comes from an old movie. That the woman is squeezing like she was squeezing a lemon (or choking the chicken, as I sometimes call it) is readily apparent especially because of the position of her middle finger and thumb. Watch her as she does it, her fingers clench, her arm pushes forward a bit and also moves downward and she even gets her shoulder into it. It is terrible form for actual shooting; but besides being terrible form and plain out ridiculous, I'll admit that it sure looks good for the movies when you combine the look on her face, of pure evil, with it. Then again, maybe that is the look of well deserved payback being a bitch when you least expected it!

Most Days One Mug Of Coffee Is Enough For Me...
...but I will admit to as many as three mugs of it on some days. I cannot imagine drinking 23 cups of it, or dealing with the jolt that 23 cups worth of caffeine (taken all at once) would give me. That was the amount of caffeine reportedly found in a teenager's body after he died from caffeine overdose (source). His parents are now suing Amazon, among others, for wrongful death.
It is sad things like this happen but it is also about time we start taking responsibility for our own actions - and I think that includes even teenagers. The substance was legal to possess, legal to sell, and reportedly came with warnings on the package. As I see it, mom and dad understandably mourn the loss of their son but it was not Amazon, the manufacturers or other distributors, who were responsible for his death. Their son was responsible for his own passing.

As Liberal As His Brother - Or Maybe Worse
If Jeb Bush runs for the presidency, as in actually is nominated by the Rebooblicans, I will send in a write in vote for myself. Now he is spewing forth the proposition to extend the tax breaks for wind energy production. Heck, maybe he is another Obama but in RINO's guise (source). We need a man, in the White House, who thinks more like this: "In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem." (source).

Oh The Humanity - Oh The Homophobia...
...or so will the LGBT folks soon all be screaming about the release of info relative to several scientific studies of identical twins that proves homosexuality is not genetic. Nope - you were not born ...a three dollar bill homosexual or bisexual - you at sometime in your life developed a taste for same sex genitalia. Then, subsequent to you having become gay, chances are, you may well choose to become heterosexual. Reportedly, there are more people alive today who switched to being heterosexual than all the current homosexuals and bisexuals combined.
I am happy to report that I have always belonged to the most consistent and stable group:
"The authors were pro-gay and they commented that the only stability was among the heterosexuals, who stayed the same year after year."

I Had No Idea - It's White History Month
It is about time that the forgotten race has it's history honored with its own month. Oh wait a minute, is that ruffling feathers! See more here; and imagine that some arsehat actually filed a police report because of the sign in the shop owner's window. So - it's alright to celebrate a 'black history month' but it is not okay to have a similar one for white history! Go figure, because if celebrating black history, and not also white history, is not a racism then nothing is racist.

Yesterday Was Lou Costello's Birthday...
...and any of my young readers are probably saying "Lou who". We old timers remember him though. Well, at least I remember his movie and show reruns anyway; I was 3 just under 3 1/2 years old when he died. I do remember though that he and his partner Bud Abbott made me laugh, and I laughed a lot at that. The world would have been a better place had he lived a longer life, he died at 53 from a heart attack; Abbott died at 74. If you ever want to see a funny movie - watch Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein, it is a classic. If you want to get a quick taste of their routine, watch their shorts on YouTube. Here is just one example of how Abbott & Costello kept me laughing and in this one Lou wins:

I Remember When They Taught Shooting Like This
I wasn't long into my career when teaching his type of shooting was discontinued in my agency but in essence it is what we were taught. Basically you drew from the holster, raised the pistol upwards on about a 45 degree angle (to where she has it when her elbow is bent) and when you got it at about eye level you sort of threw it out toward your target just as the
You can see this sort of a thing in some old cowboy and or detective movies and if you are lucky you might see it in old footage taken at a police range. I saw it a lot, on the range, at work . It was almost always the preferred way of drawing and shooting with the old timers back then; that was in the early 1980s. It does not work very well and what it mostly does is causes you to shoot like crap if you shoot as soon as your arm is extended, otherwise it makes you take longer to shoot good because you pretty much need to wait for your hand to stop bobbing up and down to get on target.
I think that drawing and immediately punching the pistol out toward your target and up toward eyelevel (or just below for fairly close in point shooting) in one smooth move is the way to go, that of course being if there is enough distance between you and your assailant. Otherwise, draw and shoot from the hip if your assailant is within easy reaching distance of your firearm. Hip shooting requires lots of practice folks, and stance makes a lot of difference with it, so don't plan on hip shooting in a real self defense situation unless you practice it first and only do that after someone trains you in how to properly perform it in the first place. Hip shooting can be a good remedy for preventing a takeaway. Remember my recent post in which I said you never want to offer your pistol to your opponent for an easy takeaway.

Three Shots To The Chest Were Found Fully Justified...
...to bring down a machete wielding intruder in the case of a man who broke though an apartment door and attempted an attack of the person living inside the apartment.
The only possible way I can see to fault the shooter was that he fired all three to the chest and did not try two to the chest and one to the head but why split hairs! The bad guy was sentenced in January (yeah - he lived).More on the story here.

The Old Ammo Switcharoo
I received a call from my local FFL today. They let me know that an ammo order I had placed with Palmetto State Armory had been received by them. I went there and picked up the box, brought it home, opened it up and found forty 50 round boxes of Magtech 22LR ammo wrapped in plastic wrap. I figured something was not right since I was pretty sure I had not recently ordered 2,000 rounds of 22LR ammo as far as I could remember.
I checked my order and confirmed my suspicion that something was amiss because I had ordered 100 rounds of Prvi Partizan 308 Win and 500 rounds of Magtech 22LR. It seems I received an order for someone with the initials JK in MI as there was a packing slip inside the shipping box with his information and showing his order had been for the forty boxes of the 22LR ammo. Earlier today, I missed a call from a MI area code but the person did not leave a message.
I shot off an email to PSA and am sure they will take care of it. I also called JK as the number recorded on my cell was the same as the one on the packing slip. He told me he had received my order, had called PSA, they subsequently issued him a UPS label and he already went to UPS to drop off my order to return it to PSA. I hope PSA will give him something a little extra for having him go out of his way to go to UPS to return the order and because he will have to wait even longer than expected to receive his order.
I hope likewise for me from PSA and time will tell. For now, I will patiently await an answer to my email. By the way, I emailed them because I did not want to wait on hold for a long time, a thing for which PSA has some notoriety. In fact, JK told me he was on hold, I think, for a half an hour before he got to speak to someone. I can be patient waiting for a reply to an email but I am not a happy camper when I am on the phone on hold for more than minute or two; a half hour would have gotten me pretty disgruntled.
Oh well, mistakes happen and I am sure PSA will make the return painlessor at least as painless as a trip to the dentist for a root canal for me. All kidding aside, I have ordered from PSA quite a few times now and never had a problem like this with any other orders that I can remember. They take a bit longer than most to ship out orders but that is okay by me since they usually have some great prices and have excellent customer service in my experience.
You know, the perfect resolution to this issue, at least for me, would be for PSA to tell me that if I wanted it, they would allow me to keep the 2,000 22LR rounds for the cost of my original order and I could reorder the .308 ammo if I still wanted it. That way, the cost of the 22LR ammo would amount to .0627 per round (shipped). When is the last time you saw 22LR for a bottom line of $31.35 a brick? It has been awhile now since I saw it that low priced but I suppose that it is not going to happen. Yet, I can do some wishful thinking now and again.
I just thought of something else, I had to pay $10 for the FFL transfer here in NY for ammo that I was not to have received. I hope my FFL will transfer the correct order, once I receive it, for free. Otherwise, PSA will, in my estimation, owe me $10. Time will tell how it all works out.

If Holding Someone At Gunpoint...
...try to remember not to basically offer them your gun and the opportunity to take it away from you. Distance is your friend and shoving your gun out in their general direction, while in close proximity to them, is ridiculous at best and extremely dangerous for you at anytime.

Ferguson - Did Any Rational Person Expect Otherwise
Officer Darren Wilson, formally of the Ferguson, MO PD was exonerated by the Department of Justice. I would have been totally flabbergasted, and convinced that our laws were nothing more than a sham, had the decision on Officer Darren Wilson been otherwise. The leftist lunatics who protested this shooting, especially those who resorted to violence, should be ashamed of themselves. Hopefully, any who turned to violence, during those protests, will be prosecuted. More info here.

Ah, The Good Old Days...
...when kids could play with realistic looking toys (without getting thrown out of school, arrested and or shot by police - you know before the post-Kennedy assassination paranoia of the left) and dream of becoming secret agents when they grew up just like I dreamed back then.
How I miss those days and how I hope I instilled some of that magic into the souls of my daughter and son to someday pass onto there own children. I am pretty sure I did even if it did cost a bit more than $3.00!
