...at least for the U.S. marshals Service which is our nations governemntal version of Dog The Bounty Hunter (yeah right).
While deputy U.S. Marshals are not usually very flamboyant, don't run around with pony tails flaping, while wearing leather vests with nothing under them but muscles and tattoos, are are not convicted felons themselves, don't have wild television shows to highlight their adventures, they are, if nothing else, persistent.
After 33 years of being on the run, so to speak, Billy Wayne Hayes, a convicted and then escaped felon, was captured by the U.S. Marshals Service in Alabama. It seems, according to the article Escaped Convict Captured After 33 Years, at FoxNews.com @ http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2006Dec03/0,4670,InmateCaptured,00.html that Mr. Hayes had been convicted of second degree murder, way back when in about 1968, and he escaped from work release in December 1972. I don't know about yours, but my calculator makes that 34 years, not 33, oh well I guess the guys at Associated Press need a math refresher, but I am drifting away from the point here, so let me get back to it.
The point is my hat goes off to the U.S. Marshals Service, especially to the deputies who got this guy, for getting this guy off the streets. It is not like he became a reformed angel while on the run either. While he was working (reportedly) under his real name (go figure why it took 34 years to nab him, or even 33); when he was arrested the marshals found crack cocaine on his person.
This was a job very well done by our law enforcement, as opposed to one that was totally screwed up. I like to give credit where it is due, and say great work guys...
