Binary Explosives - It's Best To Follow Manufacturer's Instructions

Who follows, to the tee, the instructions on half the things they use. Probably not many of us. I mean, when was the last time you used only the charger that came with your cell phone to charge it, or when did you read every word on how to use your blender, or television, or lawn mower, or your new car? Sure, you may skim the instructions to figure out how to use this or that but do you read the precautionary warnings bout how to safely use a product. I don't always read them but I do sometimes, especially like when using something that has a powered cutting blade, or chemicals like bug killer, or a new medicine I need to take, or a firearms manual. I don't want to do something stupid with something dangerous, and even deadly, that could result in me regretting not having read those warnings and doing so for the rest of my life.

For example, take binary explosives. You know what they are right. Well, if your answer is "No, I don't" or "Yes, I do" would you, or have you, read the precautions in the instructions before using them. I sure would and actually have done so a few times before using them. Hell, they are explosives, at least once mixed, thus the 'binary' in the name. In essence, binary explosives are explosives that require at least two substances to be mixed together with one another before they become explosive.

An example that is commonly available and that is used regularly in recreational settings is Tannerite or any other such brand of binary explosive made for recreational shooting. They are pretty safe. Unless mixed, neither substance is explosive on its own. Once mixed, they will not explode unless certain narrow conditions are met. For example, Tannerite will supposedly not explode if set on fire or if hit with all your might with a hammer (DO NOT TRY EITHER OF THESE TO SEE IF CORRECT OR NOT). Even when mixed and set off, Tannerite was designed not to be incendiary. It will explode though, as designed, if shot with a high powered rifle round. Thus, it is a fairly popular item among shooters who have available places where they can responsibly and safely shoot it to set it off. Sadly, it is also popular with some who seemingly are very irresponsible. Take for example the man in the below video but before you even see him in the video pay attention to what the reporter says first about it being safe:

Now go back and listen to what the reporter says about "close quarters" then to how far away from it the sheriff believes you should be when shooting a pound of it. The man in the video reportedly was only 43 feet from it and had it stuffed it into a riding lawn mower. He reportedly used three pounds of it. What was he thinking or was he just not thinking???

He lost his leg. Had he been shooting alone, there probably would have been a good chance he would have bled to death and lost his life. Luckily, he had friends with him. Luckily again, none of them was severely injured or killed from what I can gather. I imagine at least one of them knew something about applying a tourniquet and someone called 911 fast and this time help got there in time to save him but I imagine not his leg. This was a tragedy that could have been easily avoided by reading the product warnings and instructions AND BY FOLLOWING THEM. Pay attention to those warning folks, especially on things that you already should have the common sense enough to know could be dangerous. Look at those for Tannerite here and tell me, how wise was this man if as reported he shot at 3 pounds of it, stuffed in a riding mower, at a distance of only 43 feet! Sometimes, following instructions may just save your life or limb.

Sadly, this man probably has learned a lesson that he is almost certainly going to regret having learned for the rest of his life. I can not imagination what it would be like to have done this to myself or worse yet to a family member or friend. If you are thinking along the lines of 'fuck that shit, I don't need to read any stinkun instructions', please do yourself a favor and watch it again and pay particular to what the shooter says right after the target explodes; then imagine you or a loved one was him.

The Truth Be Told About RINOs & Trump

Whoever thought up that one certainy had at least a moment of genius in his lifetime. If that does not turn on the light in someone's head, who has voted those RINOs in time and time again, then nothing will save America. I am not for a moment saying Trump is our savior but that the voters most certainly just that. We need to vote for whom we need to vote to prevent that nasty witch or that total fool from becoming our next president.

As far as me voting for Trump, I stand by my wish to see Cruz become the nominee but as I have been sayng since it essentially came down to the two of them, if Cruz is not nominated, my vote goes to Trump.

A hat tip to PVQ for this one.

They Are Called Thumb Tacks For A Reason...

...because they were made to be pushed in with your thumb. Yep, sometimes you might need to give one a whack with a hammer but please never use what that this man used.

I imagine he misunderstood, last time he was at the range, when someone commented on the accuracy of his pistol by saying it was a real tack driver.

I Was Not As Lucky When Cleaning My Tortoise Enclosure...

...as when I put away my ammo cans today. While I found a nice surprise in my ammo cans, I did not find any surprises in the substrate of the tortoise enclosure. In other words, there were no eggs. In all likelihood, it was better that I did not find any eggs because chances are they would have been in there awhile and been too cool to have incubated properly. The only luck I have had with tortoise eggs has been when I found them as my female Herman's tortoise has been laying. Those go from the hole she has dug for them right into the incubator to maintain about a 90 degree Fahrenheit temperature to assure they have a good hatch rate.

This year, is the first time I brumated (hibernation for tortoises and other reptiles) my male Hermann's tortoise, at least the one I have now. My previous male was probably stolen out of my backyard but while I had him, he shot live loads for sure. I am hoping I had the current one in a dormant state for long enough. I kept him at lower temps (maybe 45 degrees Fahrenheit on average for about a month and a half). Being this species is one that comes from countries around the Mediterranean Sea, I am betting that a fairly short brumation period will be enough to have him firing live loads this year. If not, then next year it will be a longer brumation period for him, maybe three to four months.

It would sure be nice though to get some fertile eggs this year that go all the way to hatching. Last year, there were one or two fertile eggs, out of three clutches of a few eggs each clutch. Even though he had not been brumated back then, I think the problem was that I did not find the eggs until too late. Those two live eggs both died long before hatching was due. This year, the male has been brumated some, should be fertile, and I will need to check for eggs on a much more frequent basis.

He sure has been going at it these last few days.
In the past, my female has produced several clutches of viable eggs, all fertilized  by a different and older male than the one I have currently. I am keeping my fingers crossed that she will produce two or three viable clutches this year but I think it all depends on whether or not the male is ready and whether or not I find them promptly after she lays. I have been feeding them quite a bit and giving them water a lot in the hopes it will help condition them for a successful breeding. As usual, the male is much more interested in breeding than he is in eating; he is a typical ,man-swine male tortoise.

A Nice Surprise

Last month, I pulled all of my ammo cans out from where I had them stashed. It was a bit of a chore but what was more of a chore and pretty tedious at that was counting all of my ammo and doing up a spread sheet for a proper inventory. That literally took me several hours. It's not that I have a super high amount of ammo but to borrow from Yogi Bear, who was attributed as being smarter than the average bear, I will indulge myself  and say that I am smarter than the average shooter. In other words, I have enough ammo on hand to last me and my son awhile.

When I did the inventory, I sorted each caliber by brand, caliber, bullet weight, year of purchase and made notes about things like bullet type (FMJ, JHP and so on) and that is what took so long. I knew it would go much faster putting it back and I was going to put all the ammo cans back where they belonged that day but just as I got started I saw I had an oil leak from around the filter of my oil tank. I had to have the oil company's repair guy come to fix it and that delayed getting the ammo back in place. So, the ammo cans just did not get put away, not until I started doing it about an hour ago. Did I ever mention to you, I am the great procrastinator!

I had done some additions for newly purchased ammo since the inventory, and subtractions for what I had shot since then, on the inventory today. Right after that, I needed to find a can to add a new shipment of 500 rounds of 9mm to and when I opened one of them I had the thought "that's peculiar"! What was odd was that I sure didn't remember that particular can of ammo being on the inventory. I checked and sure as shit, it wasn't there. What a pleasant surprise, to find I had 500 more rounds of 9mm, and less than a year old at that, than I had thought I had on hand when I did the inventory. I added a newly purchased batch of another 500 rounds of 9mm to the can and now they are packed in there like sardines. I have to scratch my head and wonder, what else did I miss.

I am a happy camper with that find. I was planning on picking up another 500 rounds of 9mm  soon but don't have to now and the money I will not be spending on it can go toward our Alaska trip. That is a nice surprise and a very good thing.

What We Supposedy Can And Supposedly Cannot Afford

The shit that politicians and bureaucrats want us to swallow is amazing. But then, I would like to see Social Security abolished  just as I would like to see taking in refugees and illegal immigration abolished completely. As for Social Security, that is one of the biggest Ponzi schemes ever, if not the biggest.

All the money we could save by booting all the illegals, ceasing to accept refugees, and putting an end to social security would give us enough to help our Veterans as they deserve instead of the shit they currently get from the VA!

Penn Station (Long Island Rail Road) Was An Armed Camp Today

I had to go into NYC today for an appointment. I like to walk the mile or a bit more to the station but the damned gout is eating up my right big toe so my wife was kind enough to drop me off. When I got there the station was pretty crowded, one of the trains to Penn Station was running late and thus the buildup of folks. Some of them were pretty nervous looking, I am guessing because of what happened in Brussels yesterday. A few were pacing back and forth, others were eyeballing everyone instead of having there heads buried in their phones or newspapers, others just looked nervous and so forth.

Well, the late train finally got there, I decided to hop on since it was going to Penn instead of one of the other terminals. As soon as I got in the car, my super keen investigative prowess always at code yellow at the least, I noticed something markedly different from any other typical morning during rush hour. There had to be at least 30 or 40 seats available in the car. People sat down and a few to several seats remained unoccupied. That is almost unheard of at that time of the morning. Had me wondering if people stayed home because of Brussels. Another odd thing was that no conductor came around to collect and punch tickets. Not at the station where I got on nor after the Jamaica station after which they check again since it is in a new zone. That was okay by me, I scored a free ride.

When I got off at Penn, I was trucking to the subway through Penn Station's main hall and wow I almost was impressed. I counted at least 20 National Guard Troops, State Troopers and MTA Police Officers in total. As I strolled along, just about all I could think of was what I was going to dive behind for cover if someone started screaming akboohoohar allahbabalui or whatever it is those goat ropers all scream before setting off their bombs or firing their AKs. Seriously though, if any of those guys started shooting and the good guys decided to shoot back it was going to look like Waco or worse really quick. What surprised me was the lack of security checkpoints where the police check backpacks and such. They do that or at least used to do that on a fairly regular basis at certain subway stops, 34th Street/Penn Station being one of them. They may not have liked what they found had the looked in my pack but it's all legal. Anyway, on my way I went.

On the way home later on, a couple of State Troopers were on the LIRR train headed to my station. They patrolled back and forth walking from one end to the other through all the cars. As for what they carried, I was a bit dismayed. The State Troopers on the train had sidearms. The ones at Penn Statin had been armed with handguns and maybe one I saw had a sub-gun but I am not sure what type. The National Guard Troops all had handguns only, at least the ones who were obvious. The MTA police all had handguns and some had what looked like MP-5's. (Man, I miss my issued MP-5, that was one fun gun.) All of the cops were wearing vests under their shirts. The Guardsmen (and women) were wearing body armor over their uniforms. I would have thought there would have been more significant firepower in the hands of the troops but that was not the case. Then when I thought on it some more, I realized it was just all for show to placate the masses. It seemed to be working because the folks at Penn Station seemed more at ease than did those at my home station that morning.

I wonder how long all of this will last. Probably until right before a terrorist attack. Don't get me wrong, I most seriously am happy they were there. It is just that no terrorist in his right mind is going to attack when it's an armed camp like that unless it's a suicide bomber. The AK shooting variety will stay at home until the troops disappear.

I Wonder - Was There A Specific Credible Threat Of Mass Attacks In Brussels...,

...for any appreciable time before the explosives were detonated. My guess is, probably not. So what good does it do for the head of Homeland Security to say this. That's why they are so successful you fucking asshole because bureaucrats like you don't believe that Muslims sympathetic to jihad against the world, being in this country, are the specific credible threat. It's sort of the same thing you think about not securing our borders and letting them in by the dozens probably on a weekly basis and is definitely part and parcel of allowing in more Muslim refugees.

I have actually turned to prayer, praying that neither Clinton or Sanders is elected president. I pray it will be Cruz but will accept Trump.

Obama's Penchant For Making Bad Deals Continues...

...in his recent deal with Castro to normalize diplomatic relation between the United States and Cuba.

Cuba gets hundreds of millions, maybe billions, of dollars of U.S. aid and what does the USA get in return - not even promises of true political reform that would end the tyranny that rules and oppresses the people of Cuba with an iron fist. If you are a liberal and believe, as many of you proclaimed when Obama made his infamous nuclear deal with Iran, that any deal is better than no deal, then you should read what an ultra liberal (my opinion of him) has to say about it.

"The idea is like a long-term investment. But the reality of the moment is that the president has normalized relations without obtaining a schedule for resumption of democratic freedoms, human rights and property rights for the Cuban people."

Go here to read the rest of the words of Juan Williams about Obama having made another bad deal.

I am willing to bet that the left is about to start calling Williams a traitor to their cause.

Males Who Would Vote For Bernie Sanders Explained

"But you, who votes socialist, are telling the world you’d rather take from people who do the hunting, for you cannot. You are, for all intents and purposes, a wimp. In days of yore, you would’ve been driven out of the tribe. You would have held the entire tribe back. Because you just didn’t feel like going out and hunting. You didn’t feel like gathering. Meh. It’s too hard, you would’ve said. It’s not fair that Thor has bigger muscles than you. It’s not fair that Liam runs faster. It’s not fair that Ulrich has a bigger spear. It’s just not fair."

Have Been A Bit Out Of Touch Lately...

...and have not read the news in days nor blogged anything since Wednesday until today. That all thanks to being a bit more busy than usual with my working four days last week and training & qualifications for both LEOSA and my armed guard license most of Saturday morning and afternoon, then hitting Costco for my weekly shopping, all followed by a family diner on Saturday evening. Right after the dinner, which was one of those dinners you live to regret attending (most of it was fine until the check came) I left in sort of a huff after paying the bill. I hopped into the old Corolla and headed thatta way, which was no way in particular. As I drove along the always congested Cross Bronx Expressway (I 95), I decided to head to upstate NY.

I wound up on route 17 (I think they now call it I-86) and drove on the slow side while headed toward Windsor, NY a familiar stomping ground of many years for me. I stopped in a bare bones rest area, maybe 15 to 20 miles before the exit I used to get off for my uncle's farm, one without even marked parking spaces,. I stepped out to answer the call of Mother Nature, yawned in the process, and decided to hunker down for the night. It had to have been around 11PM or so. That has got to be the first time I can remember in years that I slept in my car. I shook, shivered and shook for some of the night, all I had for a blanket was a goose down coat. Damn it was cold for sleeping with the temps in the low twenties overnight. Every now and then I woke up shivering and turned on the car and then five or so minutes later turned on the heater to warm things up a bit. Surprisingly, it wasn't the most uncomfortable night's sleep. In fact, it was not too bad. Might have been better had I been drunk but alas the couple of beers I had at the beginning of the dinner had no effect by then.

Drove around yesterday, aimlessly hoping to find something to do - maybe a tag sale or auction or whatever. Wound stopping at a few places to maybe buy some ammo but with there super high prices all I picked up was a compact pistol cleaning kit, a jar of Hoppe's #9 and some patches. Somewhere along the way, I had remembered I forgot to clean my gun after the qualifications the day before. I stopped at the Cascade Valley Forest and did a did a field cleaning of the Glock 26. I had thought I was going to go for a hike there but decided against it since I didn't have any boots with me - all I had was a pir of running/hiking shoes that were not waterproof.

I wound up heading out after that toward Oquaga Creek State Park and stopped just shy of there. Regardless of not having the right shoes with me, I could no longer resist the urge to go for a hike and went for a short one in the Arctic-China State Forest adjacent to Oquaga Creek State Park. Had a short but decent hike for about an hour. Spotted some deer sign here and there and a few bear tracks in the mud along a trail. Saw a red squirrel but left it breathing. Yes, my socks got wet despite my best efforts to walk around soggy spots.

After that, I just headed home along a pretty scenic route. Stopped over in Walton, NY at a Subway and got myself a foot long meatball hero with lots of onions, pickles and jalapenos. That was exactly what I needed to remind me I needed to head home for my wife's cooking. Got home just in time to watch The Walking Dead and wolfed down about 3/4 a pound of corned beef and a couple of hunks of Irish soda bread while watching. She had waited until Sunday dinner to make corned beef, boiled potatoes and cabbage dinner. That was worth coming home sooner than later because by tonight there probably will be nothing left over. Pretty much passed out after that. I don't know if it's been because of work or something else but I have been pretty much exhausted by the end of each day over the last week or two.

Any which way, I imagine I owe you a bit more blogging this week than last, will try to get that done.

All he best,
GB

Everyman's Evening Eyeful, Morning Catch-Up Edition

Okay, I have been remiss. I wound up unexpectedly working four days last week and was caught with my pants down - well, at least without enough Everyman's Evening Eyeful posts scheduled to fill the week. To make up for that - this special catch-up edition.

I think those ought to be enough to fill the gap!

As for future editions, I have them scheduled through and including Easter Sunday. Yes, there will be an edition of Everyman's Evening Eyeful on the evening of Easter Sunday, just maybe not what you expect.
