I signed about 100 of these post cards. They were handed out by
a pro-RKBA group from a table set up at the rear of the assembly.

 

 

This rally was a bit more commercialized than the previous
two NY SAFE Act protests. Lots of shirts and stickers for
sale and there were 4 or 5 food trucks street-side.

 

 

 

 

 

 

I think that state workers were, for the most part,
afraid to come to the windows to watch the protest.
Mind you - not afraid of us but afraid of being
fired by his majesty Der Fuhrer Cuomo.

NY SAFE Act Protest - Albany, NY

Got up at 0345 this morning and was out the door by 0430 to make it to the Long Island Firearms' bus, to Albany, on time. I beat the bus there., so much for being on time. I think we filled all but a couple of seats on the us. Brendan could not make it and I could not get anyone to take the seat for free. Whoever would have taken the ticket did not even have to sit with me and I also offered anyone who would take it a free lunch at Subway's. No bites.

We got there just around 0915 or so. The rally began between 1130 and noon. Sadly there were less people there than either of the two previous NY SAFE Act protest, one in January and one in February. In fact, it was a lot less but still probably at least a couple of thousand of us, maybe a few thousand, and we were loud. Hopefully our voices were heard and I am pretty sure they were because there were folks in the Capital Building windows watching us. God damned Cuomo did not even supply Porta-Potties for us but a pro-RKBA diner across the street from the plaza let people use the facilities. The NYS government estimated that 200 of us would show up - fuck them! 

Lots of great speakers, even a sheriff from AZ. (No not Sheriff Joe - too bad but the other guy was great, sorry I cannot recall his name.) We also had a great bus captain, LIF Member Roman. He put most of this together and did it well.

Hopefully our rally will make some difference, I would hate to have gone three times already and it wind up being all for naught; that goes especially with how I felt today. For me it was a barely passable day. I felt and still feel on the miserable side but figured it was important enough to attend anyway. I got bitten by a tick about a week and a half ago and if it keeps up I will see the doc sometime this week. Maybe it's from the tick, maybe a light case of the flu, maybe a cold or maybe just a 24 hour or so bug. I slept some on the way up and slept fitfully most of the way back - woke up every time the guy behind me yelled some unintelligible shit like he had Tourette Syndrome or pulled hard on my seat like an epileptic grabbing hold during a seizure (he did both several times). I wanted to smack him but otherwise he seemed okay so I just went back to sleep each time. Next time, I will be sure to sit behind him.

13 Year Old Boy Fatally Stabs Mother's Assailant

If this happens more than once, you can bet that the libturds in NYS will be seeking to ban kitchen knives. Heck, they already have banned gravity knives, switchblades, double edged knives like daggers, and even wrist-rocket slingshots - so how can a ban of kitchen knives be far off after an event like this.

It was their day on this past Saturday and you could tell that simply by looking at the bride and groom. Phil and Celina were beaming with happiness beforehand and once man and wife they were radiant with even more joy than could be imagined.

It could not have been a nicer day. As had been planned, the service took place on the beach. The sun started sneaking out a bit soon after we arrived at the restaurant for the wedding. Then it came out more and more once the service had begun and after a few more minutes it suddenly burst out in full force. There were plenty of clouds but not one to block the sun, it was as if the clouds were spreading out to let the sun shine through right on the wedding. The bride and groom were fantastic and the service, given by a justice of the peace, was truly memorable. We stayed outside for an hour or so, after the service, for the cocktail hour and then moved inside for the remainder of the celebration. All I can say is that it truly was excellent and that is coming from one hard to satisfy SOB (as in me). It could not have been better!

All Glocked-Up For The Wedding

Just in case Phil tries to back out I figured I had best be prepared to make sure he goes through with it. I figured a shotgun might be a little to cumbersome in the limo. Today, I am going to keep Celina happy, even if it kills Phil. Hopefully it will not come to that. Now don't go getting all delirious on me, that is all meant in fun, well except for me wearing the Glock to the wedding.

Too bad I  don't have my custom made holster for the Remington R1 1911 already; otherwise, that would be the one with which I accessorized my suit today. As for the tie, believe me it looks a whole lot better in person.

Right now the girls are still upstairs getting dressed and they hurried me to be ready by 1100. Shit, I was ready 45 minutes ago, my son shortly after that, and the ladies are still primping.

Willie Nelson at the NYCB Theater at Westbury...

...was excellent tonight. Willie is 80 and still jamming and still crooning like he was a man half his age. The guy who sat next to me was rapt in the songs and sang along with Willie on a lot of them and even though he is only 23 years old he knew at least half of them. That made me feel FANTASTIC because that guy was my son Brendan. Great concert and great company. There was one huge downside to this concert and that was it only ran for about an hour and a half. I last saw Willie in concert in NYC in May of 2010 and I sure could have used a longer fix of him tonight. Still though he was excellent.

A Wedding Day With Lots Of Rain Promised

Looks like it is going to be a lousy weekend weather-wise. I don't mind all that much about rain on most days, in fact I welcome it as it keeps the trees, vegetable garden, flowers, and lawn watered. Thing is - it may dampen some plans for tomorrow that my daughter and soon to be son-in-law had made for tomorrow on the beach. Their plan was to be married on the beach and then move inside for the reception - yes those wedding bells will be ringing tomorrow for Celina and Phil.

It appears as if they will have to adapt their plans with one change in that, if it rains tomorrow, both the actual wedding and the reception will likely have to take place inside. I suppose it is a good life's lesson about marriage and its ups and downs and about it requiring the married couple to be adaptable. Marriage sure requires a lot of ability to adapt to changes, some small and some big ones, in order to last. 

Oh well, while I am hopeful the sun will show itself and stay out long enough for the wedding, I have heard it said that rain on your wedding day is a sign of a happy and fortuitous marriage. If that truly be the case, and if the clouds refuse to allow the sun to shine down upon them, then let it pour.

A Beer I'll Have To Try

Sometimes the advertising just makes it almost impossible not to try one; I feel almost compelled to just grab the one in the photo!

The beer is Ferdinand Beer from the Ferdinand Brewery in the Czech Republic, they make a pretty good variety of beer. I may have had one once upon a time but cannot remember for sure although it looks familiar. I did visit the Czech Republic some years back and the possibility is high that I tired a few of their beers. Alas, I was married at the time or may have tried something else too; they sure had pretty women in Pilsen but not as pretty as my wife!

June 6, 1944 D-Day

Let us not forget those brave Americans and other members of the armed forces of other allied nations (The United Kingdom, Canada, Free France) who spearheaded the invasion of Normandy, on this day in 1944, to free Europe from the tyranny of the Nazis, the Axis Powers and their collaborators.

It has been estimated that there were 10,000 allied casualties with about 2,500 allied dead on D-day. Even though they who died that day fill the cemeteries of France, so far from home, we should never forget them as we should never forget the injured or those lucky enough not to have been wounded for surely they too suffered, over the years, even if only by way of memories of that day and of their lost comrades. We should honor them all, at least in some small way - perhaps a moment or two of thought or prayer, on every June 6th of our lives.

Nixon Spied On His Political Opponents - Obama Is Spying On Tens of Millions of Us

That is the crux of the Verizon scandal in as much as the National Security Agency (NSA) has demanded phone records for each and every Verizon customer within the United States of America. Now tell me, remembering that it was leaked out about Verizon (good old Mr. Barack Transparency Obama did not let it out), do you for even a second believe that the Obama Administration has not demanded the same records from every other major telephone communications company within the USA! Don't feel sorry for the suckers with Verizon who are in fear of the government having violated their rights - feel just as scared if you have ATT, Vonage, Comcast, T-Mobile, Sprint, TracFone, U.S. Cellular and others because it is almost a certainty that the government demanded the same records from them.

What is the government saying is the reason for this. Get this - it helps them find out who suspected and or known terrorists have been calling. Now think about that for just one moment and you should realize if that is really what they wanted to accomplish, all they had to do was get the telephone records for the suspected and known terrorists and then check those records to see whom they were indeed calling and then get the records of those they called to see whom those others contacted. There is no way possible that they needed each and every Verizon account holder's phone records to combat terrorism.

Bear something else in mind, all of this secret spying on tens of millions of Americans and their phone records is all coming from the same president who refused to allow government officials to use the terminology war on terror, yet now the government says this is to fight terrorism. It is also coming from the same guy who had been insisting that terrorists be removed to the states from foreign to be tried here as criminals instead in military tribunals as enemy combatants; and thus would be tried giving them - the terrorists - every right under our law - but now somehow seems to forget that U.S. citizens and legal resident aliens have rights. It is the same guy who promised transparency - in essence who promised the most transparent government in US history but is pretty mum on all this right now just as he has been mum, or claims ignorance or just out and out lies about other scandals. It is one and the same guy who vehemently opposed the Patriot Act yet is using it far beyond its original intent. It is the same power crazed president who has authorized killing of American citizens on U.S. soil without any probable cause or reasonable suspicion at all of any wrongdoing other than to merely think someone is a terrorist but without any evidence of it. It is the same president who has fixed the law so that the government can seize anything from anyone by way of executive order and the same president who just put out another executive order, one that in sum and substance negates Posse Comitatus and will allow for the U.S. Military to take action on U.S. soil pretty much at the presidents fancy. It is none other than the same president who is putting hundreds if not thousands of drones into the skies above our homes to spy on terrorists, or so he says, as those drones will fly over American homes taking pictures and to possibly kill Americans (think of how U.S. drones are used round the world). It is the same president who promised a civilian force as strong as our military and under whom DHS has been stockpiling millions of rounds of ammunition, thousands of so called personal defense rifles (AR-15s and or M4s - the same rifles the Obama Administration calls assault rifles in the hands of the citizenry) and hundreds of armored personnel carriers (military armored vehicles). It is none other than the same president who allowed guns to be smuggled to Mexico without any possible way of tracking them thus resulting in the deaths of U.S. federal agents who were killed by criminals using some of those same guns. It is that really trustworthy guy who would not produce his birth certificate or school records. It's that guy who allowed for the IRS to target conservative groups and then promoted the woman who was in charge of that operation while firing a guy who was with the IRS for a brief time and was in no way involved I the scandal. It is the same president who outright lied to us and told us that a video was the root cause of the embassy attack in Benghazi when indeed it was a planned terrorist attack. The same guy who had a lying mouthpiece in the U.N. and now has promoted her to lead national security! And now that we have found out he is spying on almost 1/3 of the American public (and as I said you can bet he is spying on everyone with a phone in the USA not just Verizon customers), according to his mouthpiece in the White House, we are supposed to accept the government line that this is to only combat terrorism and that the American People can trust him, our president, Barack Hussein Obama! Oh if only Nixon were still president - compared to Obama he was an angel but no truth is he was a crook and deserved to be ousted just as does Obama. Sort of make one miss George W now - doesn't it.  

Obama asking for trust is a little itsy bit like Nixon saying: "I am not a crook" when he was caught red handed but mind you Obama is only an itsy bitsy bit like Nixon. Obama has been caught red handed but instead of like Nixon who was caught once. Obama has been caught not once, not twice, not three times but several times and it seems as each week passes there is another scandal  or two over violation of Americans' rights, or related to his ineptitude in the War On Terror, or his inability to act as the chief executive in as much as he claims little to no knowledge of what goes on in his administration. Yet, he still wants our blind trust. Well, maybe he had yours but he lost any credibility with me years ago. Now though, it has gotten so bad that even the ultra-left wing New York Times has turned against him and printed an editorial saying in essence that President Obama has gone too far with rights violations and that editorial states outright that Obama has lost all credibility; see:

Folks, it is not the GOP saying so, nor Rush Limbaugh, nor any other conservative media outlet - it is the NY Times - champion herald of the left. Oh, lest I forget to mention, there was another scandal that I would bet had a lot to do with the Times changing its tune about Obama other than Verizon. That would be the spying on the Fox News reporter and his family members. Yeah, I know, Fox News and the Times do not see eye to eye and even if that was not the end all, be all, wake-up call that the Times needed it had to push them away from Obama. Then too, I would guess they must be Verizon customers and those two things pushed them over the edge with them now slamming Obama and his henchmen.

All I can say is that it is about time that the Times actually is printing 'all the news that is fit to print' instead of just what the left and the Obama camp saw fit for the Times to print. To the reporters at the Times, and at every other local, regional and national news organization, I say this: Nail him to the cross boys and nail him hard.

Long Island Herpetological Society 5th Annual Auction

The Long Island Herpetological Society will be holding its 5th annual auction this Sunday, June 9th. it will be held in the Conference Center on the campus of SUNY Farmingdale. It will run from 1PM through 4PM (but may end earlier).

Zombie Hordes, The Apocalypse, Nuclear War, TEOTWAWKI...

...or even Obummer rigging it to become el presidente socialista for life - I just realized that despite my food stores, my other supplies, my arms locker full of guns and ammo, my super sekrit caches of guns, ammo and magazines, passports from multiple nations, lots of cash, and a decent supply of silver and gold bullion, I am not ready for any of that simply because I do not have any booze stored away. I realized it, earlier this afternoon, when I found a bottle of vodka with two and a half shots left in it, as I was cleaning up the dungeon (man cave to you and no I do not have anyone imprisoned in it nor ever will, that's not why I call it a dungeon). In fact, I do not have even one drop of booze hidden away in case of emergency. That has got to end and end soon.

So, beginning this week I will start stocking the Hooch Hoard (aka: booze bunker, cocktail cache, liquor locker or whatever). From now on, when I buy a bottle of spirits for imminent consumption, I will double up on the purchase with the intent of placing the additional bottle into my soon to be formed Hooch Hoard. Since the piddly mount of vodka remaining in my last bottle of that spirit was what brought this to mind, I imagine it would be only fitting and proper for me to make vodka the first purchase in that regard. Then I will just keep adding others as I make future purchases of my favorite spirits. I cannot forget the wife in all of this, I suppose that means I will have to do the same when buying what she likes to imbibe. That is okay because I drink most of what she likes too. As for the son and daughter and soon to be son-in-law (or anyone else) they will be lucky to be allowed to share in what we have on hand. That is also okay because none of the are all that picky when it comes to getting sloshed.

The Hooch Hoard (aka: Hootch Hoard) will be reported on in this blog as it develops and hopefully there will be enough hooch stockpiled in my hoard before an invasion of Chinese, Russian, Zombie, Libterd or partying relative hordes.

Gives you something to think about - doesn't it! Are you prepared?

Edited to add: I hope you show at least the same diligence in preparation for whatever comes our way - just like it says in this biblical quote that I sort of hijacked from Double Nickel Farm to fit my purposes:

What's A Guy To Do...

...on a Sunday when he usually does some yard work and a few other mundane chores but his daughter plants the rosebushes, pulls the weeds, waters some of the plants and mows the lawns. I guess I can water the vegetable garden and whatever flowers she missed while watering. Other than that, I think all I have to do is clean off the grill for today's dinner. Of course, I guess I'll get stuck grilling to but not for awhile yet. The thought of cleaning up the basement has crossed my mind but as you can see I opted to sit down and write this post. Of course, maybe cleaning the basement is not such a bad idea. It is starting to look a bit like Oscar Madison's room and I suppose that means it could use whatever little bit of the other half of the odd Couple that I have in me to come out and do his thing. Man, that sucks but a man has got to do what a man has got to do even if it means being Felix Unger for an hour or three!

Baking In The Sun...

...beats getting broiled by radiation treatment. Since I had extensive and very strong radiation treatments for cancer, I am not supposed to get a lot of sun. Yet, there I was out there, in my yard, for about the last hour with no shirt on and soaking in the rays. Why would I do that after the chemo and radiation docs told me to limit my exposure to the sun. It started with very achy joints quite reminiscent of Lyme Disease symptoms but was later diagnosed as probably due to low levels of vitamin D. For the past year or so, I have been repeatedly diagnosed with low vitamin D even though I take vitamin D supplements. The only thing I can figure is that happened because I have been staying out of the sun. While I don't look like a vampire right now, had you seen me over the winter you my have thought I was one of the paler undead. Usually, even over winter, my face and arms had some color. Well, that was just not so during the past two winters. 

Anyway, I took care of that by taking vitamin D supplements. First I took 1,000 units a day, then 2,000, then 3,000 up to 4,000. After a couple of months or so my vitamin D level was just under normal and finally after some additional weeks it hit normal. I don't know if it usually takes that long to get back to normal and I am the first to admit I did not always take the vitamin D supplement every day but did take them at least 4 days per week. Once back to normal, I started taking only a multi-vitamin with vitamin D and a calcium supplement also with vitamin D and again, I don't do it religiously either but do take them most days. I figured all that would be enough to maintain the levels. I was wrong since a doc just told me again, a couple of days ago, that my vitamin D levels are low. She recommended 3,000 units per day. 
 
I will take what she told me to take once I get to the pharmacy sometime this weekend but I want to also try something else to boost the level of D in my system. So, today, while doing some watering and weeding in the garden, I decided to strip off the shirt and take in some rays. I have to admit, it felt like I was baking on my shoulders and upper back. Usually, throughout my adult years, I never got all that much sun other than on my head, face and arms. I am not and never was much of a sun worshipper, at least ever since I had sun poisoning (I had second degree burns with a lot of blistering) and poison ivy (or oak or sumac) at the same time back in summer camp. I learned my lesson - more or less. I got badly burned on a trip to the beach or three after that and also a few times while out fishing but those burns were almost all before they came out with good sunscreen years ago. As for my legs, they usually look like milk. So, as I said, what I got today made me feel like I was baking or maybe even almost sizzling like bacon. It felt good considering I have gotten very little sun over just about all of the past two years, so good that maybe I will even start wearing shorts for an hour or two a day. I am hopeful that the exposure is going to help boost my vitamin D levels without putting me at risk for any foul shit. Time will tell.
 
I guess there was another reason the sun's rays felt so hot today. We have a temp in the 80s already at 11AM. Pretty unusual around here this early in the year.  I cannot say with any certainty what was the exact temperature when I was out doing yard work but I am guessing in the low to mid eighties. When I checked online weather services, I saw they evidently were also guessing. Bing.com weather said it was 87 degrees, Weather.com said it was 95 degrees, Wundergroud.com said 90.3 (for the next village over), Accuweather.com said 82 (which I immediately dismissed once I saw that the National Weather Service said the same thing), The weathernetwork.com said it was 28 degrees C which is 82.4 degrees Fahrenheit in the USA (could be they are darned commies since they used Celsius and also were touting president Obama's recent "emotional" visit to OK), WeatherBug.com said it was 90, MSN weather said it was 86. Twittering thermometers Batman, is it Global Warming!

I decided to take an average of all of the above, including the National Weather Service's 82 and I came up with an average temperature of about 86.84 degrees. That is pretty frigging hot for May in NY and thus why I felt nicely baked. Maybe I'll get a bit more of a good baking tomorrow, one can hope.

Marijuana Mama or Innocent Angelic Mother of 7

So, a U.S. Citizen, mother of 7, got arrested on a bus in Mexico last week because the Mexican military found marijuana hidden under her bus seat. Now she is struggling for her freedom. The weed was reportedly well wrapped and attached to the seat bottom in a sophisticated manner - as per her Mexican attorney - thus indicating she would not have had a chance to do so when she got on the bus. She proclaims her innocence, her husband does likewise as does her family and friends. Who knows, she may well be innocent of the crime with which she is charged. Yet, one has to wonder. if she is innocent why try to bribe Mexican officials with $5,000. The officials did not accept it. She is still in jail. Her attorney claims that it was his idea for her or her family to offer the money. Why has he not been arrested, that is the attorney? Go figure but I digress. As for the arrested mom, suddenly we are barraged with lots of family photos of her looking like an angel. Sound familiar? It is the same ploy used by guilty parties - in cases of murders, rapes, robberies, burglaries, extortion, smuggling ventures and just about any other crime of which you can think - when the bad guy is trying to look like a good guy that could not have possibly done such a crime. Now I am not saying that tends to point to her guilt just that it is what is apparently happening right now. I guess that innocent people use the same tactic to make themselves look good to the courts.

In fact, I tend to think she is innocent based upon what her attorney has said about how the grass packets were attached to the seat bottom but of course that all depends upon whether or not that is true and we must remember this is apparently the same attorney who reportedly advised her or her family to try to bribe Mexican officials. Then again, one has to remember that if it was a chore to place it there like tat, it probably would also have been somewhat of a chore to remove it from the same spot. Someone was going to have to do it, so why not her. She is in a tough spot. If she is innocent, then I hope she gets off. If however the authorities find damning evidence against her, like her fingerprints on whatever was wrapped around the marijuana and she is convicted, then tough noogies for her. Personally I would like to see almost all narcotics legalized, all social services for junkies totally and absolutely ended, extremely stiff penalties for selling narcotics to minors or for someone who injures or kills someone under the influence, and a decent amount of tax charged for the narcotics when sold for recreational use. You may think that rather liberal of me but try to remember that the Harrison Act was indeed pushed into place by liberals - that was the act that essentially made narcotics illegal under federal law. I think the government should have virtually no say in it at all except to collect Customs duties on imported drugs and then for states to collect a moderate sales tax on them and enforce any laws as to people who are injured by others under the influence.

Of course I also think we should do away with welfare except for extreme cases of folks who cannot possibly work, exile welfare frauds to work camps for 5 years, implement work-fare, execute murderers, execute they who commit manslaughter and other crimes that caused the death of another person, execute three time convicted felons, execute pedophiles, life imprisonment for kidnapping, put rapists in jail for life, use DNA testing whenever possible, put lying politicians in jail for a minimum of 25 years hard labor (oh, did I forget to mention that all prisoners would be required to perform labor for the state), jail corrupt politicians and appointed officials and law enforcement officers for a minimum of 50 years, either execute or jail for life any law enforcement officer who is convicted of perjury in capital cases in which the falsely convicted was put to death (and harsh penalties for any form of perjury by LE or politicians or appointed officials in any type of case), make it illegal for convicted felons to hold public office, bar law enforcement from using any military style weapons, bar the military from operating on U.S. soil except in the case of an invasion or insurrection (sound familiar - well that one was just upended by Obama and his goons giving the military more power to take action on our own soil) and so on. The state needs to be controlled more so that the public from what I have seen in recent years, so we should also: require anyone running for public office to prove their citizenship and to present their lifetime's worth of tax and business records for public scrutiny. The state ought to be bringing in some money other than just spending ours thus we should repeal Obama Care, do away with the Departments of Education, Energy, Housing and Urban Development, Health and Human Services and so on. We should also, by an act of Congress, do away with the Department of Homeland Security and reform U.S. Customs and the INS. In addition, we should: reinstitute Customs duties, abolish free trade, force government agencies to purchase only American made products within 3 years of implementation of said regulation, enforce strict border security and remove all illegal aliens from the USA, cut federal spending and force the government to have a totally balanced budget each year, allow for recalls of all elected officials, and on and on. I guess I should not forget to mention that the government should have zero power to enact or enforce gun control on U.S. Citizens or legal resident aliens. All the while, as this is being done, we should strictly adhere to the Constitution. Again though, I digress. Oh well, enough said anyway.

As for the mom in Mexico, she has some trials (not necessarily legal ones either) ahead of her under Mexican law.

June 11th - Protest the NY SAFE Act

Here we go again, for round three, with another protest of the NY SAFE Act set to take place on June 11th in Albany, NY. If you can be there, then you should be there, to help protect our RKBA and all of the other rights that it protects under our Constitution. I plan to go along with other members of Long Island Firearms, if we get enough folks to participate in a bus trip. If we do not get enough people to commit to a bus trip, I suppose I will drive there myself or with Brendan, if he can make it.

I was there for the other two protests and I plan to be there for this one. I have already told my boss I am taking off that day, it is a Tuesday. Being it is a weekday, legislators and the governor may actually be at work, that is if they have not already taken off for their summer vacations.
