Well they came, they uninstalled (my Cablevision), and they installed (the new Fios system). It took about 7 hours. The installer was a nice guy whos eemed to know what he was doing, although he did leave some things undone , and also left behind something that has not been resolved.
The installer got it all working but was unable to transfer my AOL favorites and address book to MSN. I wound up doing it; it took me a day to figure out how to do it so it worked. I think it may not have worked because the Verizon guy left behind a virus on my PC. I had checked it not too long before he was there. He installed something called Windows Defender to check for Spyware, and everytime it runs, my Norton AV says there is a virus called Downloader and removes it. Of course this could be a file named 'downloader' on the Windows Defender, but no one at Verizon has a clue in their Tech Service Department. If I do a complete virus scan when Windows defender has not run, the so called virus does not show up at all, its only when I do a scan and the Windows Defender remove spyware, any spyware. Go figure. Right about on par with Cablevision support, dumb as bricks, in my opinion. I am going to remove Windows Defender to see what happens.
As for the actual product, the FIOS is fast on downloads, super fast. The phone service seems the same as usual - yes we had that chaged too. Our television service is great, a better picture, and more channels, with free On demand from the premium channels to which we are subscribed. That sure beats Cablevision hands down.
The jury is still out for me on whether or not the change was worth it for my Internet service, but for the TV and phone it was worth it. If the Verizon tech service folks can figure out the virus thing, then all will be well worth it.
