When I was a Firearms Instructor with CBP, we would very rarely find a left over part laying on the cleaning mats.
We did test fire the HK pistol without putting in the take down lever. It ran surprisingly well, and the slide would stay back after firing the last round. But the mag would not drop out, and when you pulled the mag out the slide would fly forward and launch itself off of the rails.
Things like this are why all firearms instructors are prematurely old.
