They Can't Predict The Weather For Tomorrow Correctly...

...and now they are trying to get us to beleive they can predict a blizzard for the northeast USA in the second week of the coming February - about 5 1/2 months from now! That among many other predictions for wild and frosty weather in the coming winter.

A New Presentation Of TICSMYD

TICSMYD - it was the challenge call by one of my professors at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in the Forensic Psychology Master's (are you offended by that word - if so fuck off) program. It translates to exactly what the woman in the embedded video is saying, it's just that she is saying it in different words:

If you have not yet figured out TICSMYD, it stands for: Talk Is Cheap - Show Me Your Data. As the young lady points out, the leftists all too often just accuse without any facts to back them up.

My Kind Of Campaign Ads For Biden

Gotta love these.

A hat tip to Charlie F for this.

Jacob Blake Reportedly Admited He Had A Knife

So all the rioting over the shooting of Jacob Blake, presumably because he was seen as another black man unjustifiably shot by police, once again either happened because no one got the facts first or because to them (the rioters) facts do not matter. The facts are, there was a knife found on the driver side floorboard of his vehicle, he leaned forward into the vehicle before he was shot and only after the officer apparently attempted to stop him by grabbing his shirt, and Blake reportedly has admitted that he had the knife. (Source.)

Now tell me, if someone evidently is trying to grab a knife when in a confrontation with police, are you seriously going to suggest that the shooting was not justified and that all the subsequent civil unrest and violence/rioting was justified because he was shot by the police and he was black!

The Ever Changing Tune Of The Anti-Trumpers

Just one more example of how the left changes its view of something once President Trump embraces it:

Of course, that may need to be fact checked but with what I know of the Washington Leftist Rag Post, it would not surprise me at all if those are 100% correct quotes from what in my opinion is merely a mud slinging rag.

Not My Typical Month

I shelled out about 3,500 clams for gun stuff this month. Just looked at my credit card statements. Happily, I have a buyer for my Browning BLR Lightweight '81 but that sale price will not quite cover 25% of what I spent. Ouch! Yet, I am satisfied with what I am getting albeit not always the price paid considering current prices. However, if Slow Joe somehow wins, I will be ecstatic I bought what I bought before the election. If Trump wins, as I hope (as do we all I suppose if you are reading this), I will not be happy about spending the extra dollars but it is a gamble I was willing to take just in case he somehow loses.

Of course, if I attend a gun show in October, as I hope to (waiting to find out if we are getting a table) I am going to sell some stuff I have on hand that I know will sell at a...let me just say it will sell very well.

Riddle Me This

Somebody has some explaining to do! That somebody would be someone at UPS like a customer service representative but I figure why bother since all they will give me is a run around. What needs to be explained is not so much why a package sent to me from Spokane, WA went from Spokane to Hermiston, OR; then to Salt Lake City on its way to me near Texarkana, TX but why after stopping in Salt Lake City it took a very wrong turn to the west and went to Oakland, CA and then wound up near Oakland in San Pablo, CA.

It was supposed to have been delivered today but now has been delayed until next Tuesday. That is one crazy way to get it to TX from WA.

Surprise - COVID-19 Survives On Refrigerated & Frozen Food

COVID-19 has been found to be able to survive refrigeration and freezing. That has been hypothesized as the probable reason a number of same household members, some of whom who work in a frozen meat processing plant in New Zealand, have contracted the disease after 100 days of no new cases in that country. (Source.)

Why does it come as a surprise to anyone in the scientific or medical fields, specifically those researching COVID-19 or other viruses? The fact has long been that freezing viruses, for the long term, is one of the preferred methods of storing viruses for future study? (Source - see page 21 for the preferred method and temperature which they show as -70 C or in other words very cold and very frozen.)

And they call themselves experts on this virus - nope not yet are they such. It was called the Novel Corona Virus at first and it is little wonder no one is an expert on something new.

The New Do - But The Same Old Me

From the Wilderman look to the new do; I think the ears and back of my neck are going to need some sunscreen.

I walked into the barber shop looking more or less like this today as far as my hair went.

$9.00 plus tip later, I can out looking like this.

Selling My Browning BLR Lightweight '81 .30-06...

...but, of course, not by way of my blog and Blogger.com because that would be, I think, against their rules. I do have it up for sale over on GunBroker and in the event any of you are interested (and I think saying this is not against the rules) here is the link to it.

August 27, 2020 Edited To Add: GunBroker came through again. Had a bid on the BLR yesterday. While the selling price was only equal to the required starting bid, I am happy because it worked out well for me. Well, that is it will work out well if I receive payment & the required paperwork and if the buyer is happy with it (and it is just as it was described so that should not be an issue). Being I just purchased about $1,750 worth of ammo and gun parts, that is a good thing because I could not afford that cash outlay.

It's Been One Of Those Weeks & May Be One Of Those Three Monthers (or so)

I've been preparing for the possibility Biden somehow wins or for the nationwide riots I predict should he lose in November.

Today, I bought 500 rounds of Blazer Brass 45 ACP, 230 gr., FMJ ammo. Also bought a box of .38 Special (only box they had left) for a friend (not a freebie for him, I just knew he needed at least some 38 SPL so I grabbed it for him). The 45 ammo was $17.99 per box, minus $1.80 per box due to a first responder discount, plus tax - so about $175 for the lot of them. The 38 was about $23 per box minus the 10% discount, plus tax, or about $22.40 out the door. I got that all at Sports Academy. I have to say that considering the prices of ammo elsewhere, their price on the 45 ACP was excellent. PSA had it for over $23.00 per bx plus tax & shopping and that was one of the lower prices I could find elsewhere (http://ammoseek.com). I also ordered two Ruger Mark IV mags from Optics Planet; the right price and in stock.

Yesterday, I ordered some gun parts from Numrich Gun Parts Corp.. A front sight for a Mossberg 640KA Chuckster. Yesterday, the mailman delivered my latest firearm, a Mossberg 640KA Chuckster in 22 WMR that as in need of that sight. Otherwise it looks just grand. I also ordered 200 rounds of TulAmmo 7.62X54R, 148 gr. FMJ ammo. I also received an order of 500 rounds Prvi Partizan 32 ACP AUTO Ammo 71 Grain Jacketed Hollow Point.

On Wednesday, I went out to local stores seeking ammo at a decent price. Nothing of interest at Attwoods but I could have shouted "eureka" at Academy Sports. They had .380 Auto, no limit. I scoffed up 10 boxes for a total of 500 rounds.I would have taken them all but there was some other dude standing there his mouth agape (probably in amazement they had 380) so I figured I'd leave him some, maybe another ten or fifteen boxes. Then I went to Attwoods where I purchased two 20 round boxes of Hornady 300 WIN MAG, Interlock, 150 grain ammo. I also got some Federal 12 gauge shotgun shells, 7 1/2 shot for bird and or squirrel hunting hunting. Lest I forget, I made one other purchase at Attwood's, one box of Winchester Western 22LR, 325 rounds, 36 grain plated hollow point ammo.

They say Wednesday's child is full of woe; I was born on a Wednesday and after my purchases I may be a bit woeful when I get hit with my Amex bill. You see, I also bought a complete and fully assembled upper in .223 Wylde from Palmetto State Armory. I am gambling here since they may go down in price a lot if Trump stays in but if Basement Biden wins - it will have been the right move. Been meaning to get one for a long time but I am The Great Procrastinator. In fact, I bought a Spike's Tactical stripped lower several years ago. Soon after that, Brendan gave me a PSA lower parts kit. Must be at least 7 or 8 years ago (maybe longer) for that stuff and it is still not assembled. I have promised myself to get to it once the upper arrives.

Speaking of procrastination, earlier this week, don't recall which day, I received my brand spanking new Ruger Mark IV. You may remember, if you are a longtime reader of mine, that I first expressed interest in getting one back on Sunday, September 25, 2016. I'm happy I did not get one rigt away, there was a recall due to a problem which since has beed fixed, but damn I just gotta buy things when I first see em or at least sooner than later - the price has gone up considerably since then.

On Tuesday I ordered five boxes (1,000 rds.) of Federal Champion 22 WMR, 50 Grain, Jacketed Hollow Point Box of 200. That order was with TargetSportsUSA@ $183.95. That was an excellent price, it works out to $9.20 per 50 rounds. That is pre-Novel Corona Virus and pre-rioting/looting pricing. I also struck it lucky at my local Academy Sports and I picked up three boxes of Winchester 9mm NATO 50 rounds per box. Limit of three or I would have bought a case. They were marked $12.99 and I got a 10% discount as a retired first responder. You should have seen the look on the gal's face when I asked her if the discount applied for retired folks; she kind of looked me over and stammered "you have to have ID to prove that". I guess the long hair and beard threw her off. Any way that made them $11.69 each plus whatever tax they added on. Not bad, especially in these times. Did not get the chance to go back later and try again but decided to keep going back each chance I get to look for more.

I'll be darned if I recall getting anything on Sunday or Monday but I may have on Monday. Anyway, it is going to prove to be an expensive week. Of course, it may be mitigated somewhat in early October when Brendan and I intend to have a table at a gun show local to him. If I sell the 45 Ammo I bought, I'll still have a nice surplus on hand. I actually bought that stuff today thinking of giving it to my son but had forgotten he just picked up 500 rounds yesterday or Wednesday. If we sell it at the show, and things are much the same as now, I expect to be able to ask (and get) $40 - $50 a box for it (maybe more if things get worse). We could probably also sell half of the 380 and get upwards of $40 per box on them too; 380 was nonexistent at a gun show we recently attended - more potential buyers asked for it than any other caliber except 9mm and 45. Not too sure I'd sell that high though, at least not to Trump supporters.

Speaking of all this ammo buying, I had the thought yesterday I am going to stock up on bottled water, paper towels and arse wipes in early October. I figure no matter which one wins in November there is going to be a lot of rioting. They will go berserk if President Trump maintains the presidency and if he loses I think they will just continue their insurrection and stuff like that will start selling out again soon before the election and the shelves will be bare after it. I am good on food but could use some additional medical supplies should the election cause more strife than even now. Oh - booze - I need to stock up on booze too just in case COVID-19 gets worse and I need to put myself into hermit mode.

If Trump is reelected, I'll have to take a bunch of the ammo out for a celebratory shoot fest. Damn, I need to head to the range sooner than that. That Ruger and Chuckster are screaming at me to warm them up! After all, happiness is a warm gun or so someone once said.

All the best,
Glenn B

I Was Shocked Today...

...while speaking to one of the ladies n the front office of my apartment complex and she told me "Happy Friday". I had not a clue, I thought it was Thursday. Not that it matters shocked or not - retirement is wonderful like that and unless I have an appointment for something everyday can be any other day. I mean who cares once they are retired.

I've Gotten Only 4 or 5 Mosquito Bites...

...in the just over one year that I have lived in Texas. In fact, I probably saw less than 15 mosquitoes in all that time. Well, that was true until yesterday when I got several mosquito bites while out with Skye for an afternoon walk. I must have swatted at least 30 or 40 off of my legs - shorts season may be over if this persists.

The white bands on the legs, this mosquito's ferocity & daytime activity are all telltale signs as to its ID

Yeah, I know that most mosquitoes are crepuscular and or nocturnal. Yet, these dive bombers were out in broad daylight which immediately clued me in as to which species were they. On one swat of my leg, I got two of them, one demolished beyond recognition but the other quite identifiable as an old foe - one I first encountered while on a work assignment to Haiti - the Asian Tiger Mosquito.

These buggers are aggressive and nasty as they are vectors for various very serious and sometimes deadly diseases such as: Dengue Fever, the Zika Virus,  Equine Encephalitis and Chikungunya (never heard of that one before today but it was shown on the CDC site as a sickness spread by these pests). Just got over being sick as a dog with some sort of internal infection and certainly do not need some other malady to make me miserable!

I am hoping to avoid additional bites from these vicious bloodsuckers in the future and have brought out the artillery so to speak. This can now sits next to keys and Skye Knucklehead's leash - at the ready for when we go out. If that does not work, I may have to carry Raid Yard Guard along on our walks. As for Skye Knucklehead, she takes a monthly tablet that kills not only fleas and ticks but mosquitoes too and of course she also takes a dewormer. She's better off in me in the anti-parasite department!

Do You Put Your Trust In The Post Office...

... and its employees to handle mail in ballots for a presidential election? Hell, I don't trust them as far as I can spit into a 100 mph wind. Now that their union has shown itself as openly anti-Trump and very pro-Biden I see a conflict of interest therein that should be used to prevent them from handling ballots.

Then there is also this:

Those letters could be meaningless coincidence (mine might have a Z in the number, who knows) or they could be a dead giveaway of all the info that someone, like a corrupt mailman or mail sorter, needs to pick and choose which ballots arrive at the correct destination after being filled out and mailed in by a voter.

Where Has All The Ammo Gone?

Where has all the ammo gone?
Long time passing
Where has all the ammo gone?
Long time ago
Where has all the ammo gone?
Panicked gun owners bought every box.
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Go to the below link for an interesting read about the current ammo shortage and the astronomically high prices: https://www.recoilweb.com/why-is-the-ammo-gone-162059.html?fbclid=IwAR0g8NiIq6pbPNviZS-yu-cq4iwx9ZLMbkcf_djAyl2saMejkNqd2Q1XRcc

The worst part is that they estimate 12 months before things return to normal but only if president Trump is reelected (and that would of course also have to include the Dems not taking control of the Senate). The scariest notion of all though is Biden may win and the Demoncrats may wind up controlling both the House & the Senate. Be afraid - very afraid - make sure you go to vote! In fact bring out your dead and have them vote too - they may not be dead yet!😲

9th Circuit Turns Right...

...at least momentarily and strikes down a CA law against magazines with a higher than 10 round capacity. Reference that law, Judge Kenneth Lee said:

“It makes unlawful magazines that are commonly used in handguns by law abiding citizens for self-defense. And it substantially burdens the core right of self-defense guaranteed to the people under the Second Amendment..." followed by “It cannot stand.” (source)

Me thinks there are celebrations in CA tonight. I know at least one happy gun owner out that way!

I am looking forward to reading the whole decision. While this only applies to Western states now, it has the potential to shove the N.Y. SAFE Act right up Cuomo's arse.

The Conservative Twins On Biden's Pick Of Harris

These guys are excellent:

All the best,

I Was Remiss Reference Nagasaki On August 9th...

... because I spent the whole day at a gun show and was pooped when I got home and forgot to post that August 9th was the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Nagasaki (a city in Japan for today's Geography wizards of the imbecilic moron type).

An estimated 60,000 to 80,000 died because of Fat Man, the single atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki. Just 3 days before, Little Boy, the first atomic bomb ever detonated during warfare was dropped on Hiroshima Japan. An estimated 90,000 to 140,000 people died due to that first bomb. (That was during WWII for those few youngsters among my readers who may have no clue.)

Thank the heavens it took only two such bombs to end the war, the United States of America could have dropped another within an another 7 to 8 days. Why we used the atom bomb when we could have fire bombed both cities - as we had done to Tokyo between March 9-10, 1945 (killing an estimated 100,000) (source) - is anyone's guess but I imagine, in great part that it was an urge to end the war as soon as possible and maybe more importantly (or so they thought at the time) was a warning to the Soviet Union. Whatever the reason - in the end they had the right effect - the two bombings effectively ended the war.

With the threat of the annihilation of the Japanese people in sight, Emperor Hirohito agreed with two of his war council members - against the advice of his war minister who thought the war was not yet lost (imagine the balls and or the stupidity of that man) - that the war needed to end. Hirohito authorized the unconditional surrender of Japan to the allies and WWII soon came to an end. (Source.)

I understand that the bomb probably saved tens of thousands of lives in the long run and ended a war that could have resulted in the takeover of the world by the remaining & extremely oppressive Axis power Japan. Yet somehow, the thought of what nuclear war would do to the world today just scares the stinky stuff right out of me. The bombs detonated in Hiroshima and Nagasaki turned the world in a different and much scarier place.

Oppenheimer, considered the father of the bomb, was right about one thing when he said: "I am become Death the destroyer of worlds". It was TEOTWAWKI for the people of the earth in 1945, the world as people knew it had been destroyed forever and a new world emerged from the ashes that day.

Been Sick As A Dog...

...then again Skye Knucklehead my mongrel has been just fine. Went to see my doc yesterday - shy high BP, dizziness, loss of balance, started to fall a couple of times but luckily the wall was there to catch me each time, aches & pains all over, night sweats, sensitive to cold, hot flashes (yep men can get them too), nausea, hips gave out a few times. Figured I had a damned stroke. The doc says to go to ER right away for a CT scan, pretty darned certain she said of my brain, and for blood work. She had her nurse take me there in a wheelchair - next building over from the doc's office.

ER doc has the blood-work done, does a scan of my abdomen, does not do a scan of my brain. When I asked the nurse why as I was being discharged, he tells me that on the ER doc says what tests will be done in the ER and no other doc can order them what to do and my doctor has a habit of trying to tell them what to do. How appropriate, they found I had a UTI and they were having a pissing match.

I have no clue how I got a UTI, had them a time or three before and it was always probably due to sex - even with nice girls. No telling how I got this one since I have not had any in way too long - like a really long time. Anyway, while they did not know what specific bug I got, and are still waiting on the urine culture they took, at least I know I don't have the:

While they say you can do it with one hand, I do not think you can catch it from your hand, so I really should be in the clear in that department.

I do feel somewhat better after the antibiotics they shot me up with and have to take more of them for 10 days. What sucks is that I cannot drink while taking this particular type of antibiotic, supposedly it has a bad effect - but such is life. I suppose I could have had this for months and that is why I was so run down.

Anyway, I called my regular doc today to see if she wants that CT Scan of my brain done or not. Something tells me the headache, high BP, lightheadedness, and loss of balance were not due to a UTI. Then again who knows.

All the best,
Glenn B

Oh No At The Gun Show

My son and I were at the Murphy's Gun Show in Texarkana, AR yesterday and today. The promoter had a last minute cancellation and Brendan and I got a table. It was in a lousy spot though in a room that ran around half the outer perimeter of the main hall and while right at one of the two entrances, we did not see much in the way of potential customers - not like we would have inside the main hall.

Then at the end of the day yesterday, Mr. Murphy came by and asked if we wanted two tables inside the main hall since a dealer would be unable to return for today. We jumped at it. So today, we wound up just across the aisle from another private seller who was showing a gun to some potential customers when Brendan and I were served up a bit of heart beat stimulating action from maybe 5 to 10 (at most) yards  away when that dealer cranked one off into the floor. Thank goodness he had the pistol pointed down at the time. He had been showing it to a man and woman who had a young child or two with them.

When I heard the shot I took a knee and placed my hand at the ready on my pistol (which of course was unloaded as per gun show rules) and I did a quick scan hoping it was not a lunatic (as in a leftist loon) going berserk. I also told Brendan to get down but he assured me it was the dealer who fired one off. Our hearts were pounding away nonetheless and my mongrel Skye Knucklehead had quite the scare as well (she looked terrified, I guess because it was very loud and so close).

That was maybe half an hour ago and about 5 minutes ago (both times relative to when this was written initially on my phone) it appeared the dealer was told to vacate the premises (as in get his arse outta there pronto). I found out later from one of the show promoters that dealer has been banned from their shows for the next year. I wonder whether the Convention Center at the Holiday Inn, in Texarkana, AR, is going to be quite as welcoming of gun shows in the future!

I have always been somewhat put off when someone points a gun at me while in a gun show or in a gun store or anywhere for that matter. The few or maybe several times that I have said something to the jerk doing so at a show or in a gun store, I was told 'the gun's not loaded'. I suppose it was the same story today - the seller knew the gun he was trying to sell, that he had been showing off to potential buyers, was not loaded. Yeah okay!

As she was departing right after the shot was fired, I spoke to the woman to whom he had been showing it. I asked her if it was the dealer's gun that had gone off. She replied 'it was his' and if I heard her right that he had essentially explained to her 'if you did not remove one thing and did not pull another thing back it could not fire'. I guess he removed it (the zip tie maybe) and he pulled it (the trigger most likely) - whoopsie

My ears are ringing loudly, much louder than usual and that shot was fired early this afternoon! I guess that is a small worry considering we our table change could have wound a fatal mistake had we been shot. Happily, it appeared that, no one was hurt except maybe for damaged hearing.

Glenn B

Lest We Forget...

...that today is THE day that ushered us into a new world - a much scarier world than it had ever been before - allow me to remind you that today is the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima with the atomic bomb Little Boy. Yes, it helped us win the war and saved the live of thousands of our troops and yes I think it was justified but I still wish it had never been developed.

As Oppenheimer, the father of the bomb, put it: "Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds".

Ordered A Gun Today...

...and it only goes to show (along with this prior blog post) I am THE Great Procrastinator! In that post, back in January 2017, I first wrote about wanting to get a Ruger Mark IV pistol. Finally ordered one today - the Ruger Mark IV target, 5.5" barrel, blued finish, model 40101. While I am happy I finally did so, I have to add: Damn the inflated price I had to pay for it because of my procrastination! Of course, the early guns were recalled by Ruger due to a safety issue, my guess though is this will not be one of the early ones since they have been out for a few years now.

As for the higher price I had to pay: I look at it this way though - if Biden somehow is elected, or if the demoncrats take the Senate this November - the RKBA rapidly may become a thing of the past and guns may become impossible (or next to impossible) to purchase - so, it is a investment on which I was willing to gamble.

Today In History - Aces & Eights

On August 2, 1876 - the place was Deadwood, South Dakota (actually the Dakota Territories at that time, SD became a state in November 1889 - source) - there was an infamous shooting. The man who wound up shot took a seat at a poker game, in the No. 10 Saloon, but as opposed to his usual seat of choice (that with his back to the wall) the only open seat had his back to the front door. He held a pair of aces and eights and I imagine he thought things were looking fortunate but things were about to go badly for him. While holding that hand, Hickok was approached from the rear by Jack McCall who drew a pistol and fired a single shot instantly killing Wild Bill. It is said McCall fired additional shots at others in the saloon but all the others were misfires. McCall was later hanged for this killing (source). More on Wild Bill Hickok here.

As you can see from both of those accounts, from the same website, the stories are somewhat contradictory but such is how it was in the Old West when stories appeared in cheap pulp novels and newspapers of the day - evidently the fake media has been with us for a long, long time.

One other thing about today in history, this time August 2, 2020: It was mere coincidence I suppose - or was it divine fate - when I donned this T-shirt this morning before walking Skye Knucklehead - my mongrel (and one of my traveling companions when Brendan, Skye & I visited Deadwood, SD in June).

I took that pic only after looking at a 'This Day In History' link I came across online, I think at Fox News. Anyway wherever I found that link, I clicked on it and saw that Wild Bill was blasted on this day in 1876. It was several minutes later as we approached my apartment complex that I remembered I was wearing this shirt and I thought 'oh what a coincidence' - then I wondered 'or was it fate'. I sent the pic along with a text message to my son saying it was the anniversary of the shooting and told him of the odd coincidence/quirk of fate of me wearing that shirt today.

By the way, I highly recommend the Nugget Saloon (alternate info link https://www.deadwood.com/business/bars-and-saloons/nugget-saloon/). If you ever visit Deadwood and want a drink - great selection of booze - or a huge and fully loaded Bloody Mary - this is the place. Brendan and I enjoyed a few - and I think he had the Bloody Mary as I recall - all served by an excellent bar tender.

RIP Wild Bill.
