Too Bad They Did Not Put It Out Of Its Misery...

...with a single well placed shot. Everything about it looks like a naked bear to me except for what appear to be very long forelegs but then again I have never seen a hairless bear. Whatever it was, plantation workers came across it near Sibu, Malaysia (source). Maybe it's an alien zombie bear from planet PSR B1620-26 b, nicknamed Methuselah (source).

Decent Deal on 45 ACP Ammo At SurplusAmmo.com

SurplusAmmo.com has a decent deal on Armscor USA: 45 ACP ammunition. It is 230 grain, FMJ ammo. They are offering it at $15.99 per box, or at $156.99 per 500 rounds or $299.99 (this one is a 24 hour deal) for a case of 1,000 rounds. I ordered some and shipping was reasonable considering it is coming from WA and as compared to shipping prices at other dealers who are even closer to my home than that.

Armscor USA ammo is made here in the USA. I have used Armscor ammo before and have had no complaints. It is certainly good to go for use at the range for self defense and tactical training. These are the specs for it straight from the Armscor USA site:

Specifications and Features: Caliber: .45 Auto
Grain Weight: 230
Bullet Type: FMJ
Muzzle Velocity: 830 fps
Velocity at 50 yards: 802 fps
Velocity at 100 yards: 776 fps
Muzzle Energy: 352 ft/lbs
Energy at 50 yards: 328 ft/lbs
Energy at 100 yards: 307 ft/lbs
Uses: Target Practice, Plinking

I think that this ammo would put a memorable hurting on a bad guy against whom you had to legally defend yourself. I must admit I prefer jacketed hollow points for that or at least a mixture of FMJ and JHP rounds in my mags but this might suffice in a pinch.

Hopefully there will not be any hitches with my order. I sent Surplus Ammo an email to inquire if they have my local FFL's license on file. They replied within an hour and said they did not but to go ahead and place the order and then have the FFL send them the copy of their license. So that is exactly what I did. My guess is that my FFL will send the copy to them tomorrow and the shipment will be with UPS soon.

As a follow-up note to my previous post, this was even less expensive than what I could have gotten at SportsmansGuide before they cancelled my order because they refuse to ship to NY State. Fuck them, I have found a yet another new source of ammo.

Sportsman's Guide Has Abandoned New York Ammo Buyers...

...who seek to legally purchase ammunition from them and then have it legally shipped to a FFL here in NY (as required under the NY unSafe Act). I have not bought or tried to buy any ammunition from them in awhile am in need of some 45ACP so I looked to them for it. While they did not have the best price on the actual ammo by a long shot, they did have the best bottom line. Even if I bought it at a competitor who offered a lower price, I would have paid less at Sportsman's Guide because today they were offering free shipping and the way it worked out - they had the best deal. So, I placed my order or tried to and the response I got from the Sportsman's Guide system was that they do not ship to the zip code I had input for my FFL holder. I sent them an email asking what was up with that and they replied that they do not ship ammunition to New York State.

Since it is perfectly legal to ship us ammo (excluding residents of NYC), as long as it goes through an FFL on this end, that was one disrespectful slap in the face to their customers here in NY. I shot back another email to hem letting them know so. I also reminded them that other ammunition dealers are very ready, willing and able to do so and I can only see myself using them exclusively in the future. I am even considering not shopping at Sportsman's Guide for anything once my current membership runs out. My single email may not do much by itself but if they get enough negative feedback on this from other NY'ers then maybe they will reconsider.

For now though, it's time to look elsewhere and pay more for ammo I suppose.
