Sportsman's Guide Has Abandoned New York Ammo Buyers...

...who seek to legally purchase ammunition from them and then have it legally shipped to a FFL here in NY (as required under the NY unSafe Act). I have not bought or tried to buy any ammunition from them in awhile am in need of some 45ACP so I looked to them for it. While they did not have the best price on the actual ammo by a long shot, they did have the best bottom line. Even if I bought it at a competitor who offered a lower price, I would have paid less at Sportsman's Guide because today they were offering free shipping and the way it worked out - they had the best deal. So, I placed my order or tried to and the response I got from the Sportsman's Guide system was that they do not ship to the zip code I had input for my FFL holder. I sent them an email asking what was up with that and they replied that they do not ship ammunition to New York State.

Since it is perfectly legal to ship us ammo (excluding residents of NYC), as long as it goes through an FFL on this end, that was one disrespectful slap in the face to their customers here in NY. I shot back another email to hem letting them know so. I also reminded them that other ammunition dealers are very ready, willing and able to do so and I can only see myself using them exclusively in the future. I am even considering not shopping at Sportsman's Guide for anything once my current membership runs out. My single email may not do much by itself but if they get enough negative feedback on this from other NY'ers then maybe they will reconsider.

For now though, it's time to look elsewhere and pay more for ammo I suppose.

All the best,
Glenn B

Y'can't blame 'em really. The hassle probably isn't worth it.

Best advice? Move outa NY.

There are many jobs in free states, less hassle as a firearms owner.

I can and do hold it against them because their initial reason for ceasing shipments of ammo to New Yorkers was that they believed it illegal under the NY SAFE Act (I just did some checking with someone else on that and was so informed). Then - after it was made clear to SG (and other ammo dealers) that it was fully legal to ship to NY'ers through an FFL Sportsman's Guide refused to budge on the discontinuance of shipping to NY. Now you may think it a hassle that would not be worth it but all that has to be done is that: the FFL has to fax a copy of their current FFL to the out of state dealer. Then when a NY buyer fills out the info for shipping address, he inputs the FFL holders address. The dealer then sends the ammo to the buyer through the FFL. The fax of the FFL is a one time thing for the duration of the life of the FFL.

That does not sound like a hassle to me and certainly not anything that would cause financial hardship on Sportsman's Guide that would not be worth the profit made from continued sales & shipments to NY. In fact, many other dealers readily ship to New Yorkers through FFL holders. The hassle is for the ammo buyers and the FFLs (who only get $10 per shipment) here in NewYorkistan.

Anyway, I am happy to shop elsewhere, just not happy I will be missing those deals at SG and not happy about them cutting us off.

All the best,
GB

Oh, by the way. It is not as easy as you may think to up and move from one's home to another state. Anyway, I choose to remain and fight and hopefully those of us, who adhere to the RKBA, will someday be able to change this shithole into a free state once again.

All the best,
GB
