Super Bowl Sunday - Planning & Supply Stages

Let me start this by saying, I am not a football fan. Yeah, I kind of was one when I was young, maybe between the ages of 10 and 23 but forgot all about it when I got involved in the real world working for q living. My interest turned more toward  guns & shooting, hunting, Mexican hellholes in which to get drunk and have some other fun (I was single then - get it) hiking and travel. Football never really did it for me before that and once I was out on my own it did even less. Still though, I can enjoy a good game now and then (the cheerleaders even more than the game - am married but am not dead) and just about the only ones I ever watch are the last three games of the playoffs. So, I will be watching the Super Bowl this coming Sunday along with my son Brendan. The last couple of few years, we went to Zum Stamtisch and watched at the bar along with my brothers-in-law. This year we are staying home because we are both working the next day.

With that in mind, I went to Costco today. I picked up a few things to enjoy during the big game. First of all, I grabbed a pork roast - a 16.66 pound pork shoulder. No doubt, I will cut in in two and freeze half of it but the half that does not get frozen is going to be devoured this weekend. Weather permitting and Brendan willing, it will be cooked on his smoker (he is excellent at it). If either the weather or Brendan does not want to cooperate I may give it a go on the BBQ grill; I don't mind it being crappy out while BBQing as long as it is not during a heavy downpour. Otherwise the wife will toss it into the oven and roast it with potatoes and onions. Mmmm mmmmm good Sweine Felisch! I have to say that Costco's pork shoulder is absolutely fabulous and that is because of the fat content - it is substantial and gives an excellent texture and flavor to any roast made with it. Screw lean pork, it is dry and virtually tasteless.

Of course, I also got some other delectables for us deplorables. I picked up a bag of small red & white taters. Costco used to sell bags containing a variety of white, red, purple and black potatoes but has not had them for a year or more near me, so the ones I got will have to do. I debated on getting a few pounds of shrimp for an appetizer and figured I would hold off on them until Saturday or Sunday and get them as fresh as possible. I did pick up a nice sized chunk of white cheddar cheese aged three years, one of my favorites; plenty of crackers in the cupboard. Grabbed a jar of medium salsa and a bag of Fritos corn chip scoops for that. Already have some cheese dip for the chips as well. I grabbed a jar of Kirkland Pesto too. I never even knew what was pesto (funny living most of my life in and near NYC and not knowing about pesto) until my brother-in-law Hans made some fish a few moths back. It was very tasty indeed and when I saw some at Costco awhile later, I bought it with some trepidation thinking it would taste like crap being I never expected anything in a jar to be as good as the fresh product. The fact is, it was the equal of, if not better than, what Hans had made. I have bought several since then and it goes excellently with a wide variety of other foods.

The last thing I picked up was a jar of garlic stuffed green olives. I am not a fan of olives. Until a few years ago, I would never eat them; then I started eating some spicy shriveled up black olives at a local Portuguese restaurant - they were quite different and delicious. Winds up that now, every now nd then, I can eat a couple or few olives in a salad or by themselves but still they are not a favorite of mine. Brendan, on the other hand, loves em and so does every one else in the family. I also already have a few jars of garlic horseradish pickles on hand - and man is this particular batch the spiciest ever. Then there are the Macadamia and Brazil nuts also already in the larder.

On Friday, or maybe Saturday if I get stuck working on Friday, I am going to get some last minute things like those shrimp I passed by today (well fresher ones than those in particular), maybe some scallops and baby octopus too. Not much, a few pounds in all, just enough to throw into a pot to cook up in a sort of hot & spicy ale based seafood stew I do or in a sherry and cream chowder (decisions - decisions). I'll also get some fresh cilantro, tomatoes, garlic and onions to make my own fresh salsa which I am sure will be better than what I got at Costco today. We already have some dried peppers from our garden around here somewhere to add the heat to the salsa.

Last but least will be the liquid refreshments. So far, I have a few good sized bottles of hard cider, a few bottles of Hop Stoopid Ale, a couple to few more other bottles of other ales, more than enough wine, and enough hard liquor (Tequila, Tanqueray Gin, Laird's Applejack, Spiced Rum, Vodka and Kirschwasser) to float my and Brendan's boat even enough if a few of his friends come over for the game. Brendan and I won't be drink an awful lot since he has to work the next day and so do I. If I recall right I am covering for someone the day after the Super Bowl - so it probably will be a hungover someone for whom I am working. Whatever - I sure do like to have a selection of what I like on hand; so, when the urge hits me for this or that, this or that is here. About the only things I am missing is a jar of moonshine cherries (or my own vodka cherries) and a bottle of Irish whiskey.

I think we will have a nice party. I may have to invite the brother's-in-law and son-in-law. Well Phil - what say you - are you coming for the game son-in-law of mine?

Shit, did I forget green vegetables - oh well - next year for them.

Let's go Islanders (oh wait, that is the other sport isn't it)...

Two Suspects Arrested & Identified In Canadian Mosque Shooting

At least one of the shooters in the Canadian mosque shooting has a Muslim sounding name, the other a Canadian sounding name.  My guess is that they are both Muslims but that is just a guess right now even though they, or at least one of them, were/was reported to be shouting "Allahu Akbar" while shooting and at least one of them was of Moroccan origin. At first, it seemed to me that the media reports tried to steer folks to the belief that the attack was perpetrated by Canadians who were anti-Muslim extremists in as much as they reported that witnesses said the shooters had Quebecois (A French speaking native of Quebec) accents. They
then went on to talk about how witnesses were concerned about a pig's head having been left at a Mosque not all that long ago, seemingly as if one had led to the other. The reports even quoted the mosque's president as having said this about the pig's head: ""We were told that it was an isolated act, but today we have deaths," Yangui told reporters." I also am guessing that the idea that the culprits were anti-Muslim extremists did not hold pig's blood but again that is just my guess, I am sure more info will be divulged as to their identities. More here.

Soon though, no matter who were the killers, I am pretty sure someone down here in the USA will be blaming this on President Trump and his immigration policies. Just imagine how relieved George W. Bush must be since it appears that President Trump has finally taken the heat off of him.

My condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased and my wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured.

A Nice Day At The Zoo - Nope!

There is a new Darwin Award nominee who, I think, is sure to be a winner. If climbing over two fences, to get into a zoo for free, and winding up being mauled to death in the tiger enclosure does not qualify one to win a Darwin Award - then what could qualify! More here.

There is a pretty gruesome video, on YouTube, of the man being mauled. I won't embed it here but will supply the link in the event some of you want to watch it. I watched pars of it, not nice at all. It is at this link:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vR1uU3t2-_Q

I am sure it will be removed soon but as I type, it is still available. I think regardless of the violent content, or maybe because of it, YouTube should not remove it in as much as it is a great reminder to assholes that they need to think before doing things like climbing over fences to avoid paying admission fees. The really sad thing is the guy had a job and paid for his wife and kids to enter the zoo, then climbed over the barriers with a friend (a friend who did not climb into the tiger enclosure). So his wife and kids were there, at least nearby, when it happened. A nice day at the zoo it was not.

Wasted Travel Time

On the day after tomorrow, I showed up last Thursday but no one else was there. I don't get why they put up that sign if no one else was going to have showed up and they most certainly should have known either by today or the day after tomorrow! What a waste of my future travel time while time traveling but at least it is past me.

So Today I Got A Can Of This...

...to start to refinish this:

Ugly - isn't it!
I painted it that color scheme to bring it to a Bloggershoot in NH a couple of years ago and then forgot it at home when Brendan and I drove up there for the fun. The paint was supposed to be a whole lot redder and not pink but it is what it is I guess (I hate that saying but it fits so well here). I was going to use it in the closing zombie charge of the blogger shoot and I am sure it would have gotten a lot of laughs.

Since then, it has just sat locked away, never had the urge since painting it to bring it to my local range like that. I have not started stripping off the paint yet because - while I am kind of, sort of, almost positively certain I want to refinish it - there is the consideration of pissing off she who must be obeyed once the fumes reach the living room, where she is currently watching television. The fumes almost certainly will start her bitching at me admonishing me for doing it in the house. Oh well, I suppose it has to get done, so either tonight while she is asleep or tomorrow while she is at work. Mind you, that is not procrastination for the sake of procrastination, that is playing it safe.

My only other concern is I am a bit worried that the paint remover will destroy whatever finish is on the metal under the paint. If it does, oh well I can repaint it and go zombie hunting with it. Maybe I should first test that on the bayonet that is hiding around here somewhere.

This Fed-Ex Employee Deserves A Medal And A Raise

A Fed-Ex delivery driver intervened during a bunch of leftist scum burning an American Flag, evidently put it out with a fire extinguisher. Then was confronted by members of the flag burning crowd whom he pushed away and whom he sprayed with the fire extinguisher he used to douse the flames. Amazingly enough, one other person in the video actually stands up for both the flag and the courageous driver. More here:

Maybe America is becoming great again. Fed-Ex has moved up several notches in my esteem because they have said they do not plan to fire him.

No Twigs, No Seeds, Nothing You Don't Need...

...Panera Bread is some bad assed eats, and that is a very good thing. Yes folks, I don't expect Panera Bread ever had twigs or seeds (at least no marijuana seeds) in their food (but had some healthy edible seeds) but the big news is that they recently banned all the stuff you don't need. They have banned over 100 additives that are often found in the food we buy at sandwich shops, other restaurants and supermarkets. They did that without and I repeat - WITHOUT - any government intervention from bureaucracies like the FDA. Why they did it was to give their customers what they want (source) and I would guess to continue to make a profit.

Can you imagine that, a big business (and yes Panera Bread is BIG business, reportedly with over 8 million customers per week and revenues over 2 billion dollars) with absolutely no government intervention all because it is what their customers want and because the owners of Panera Bread like to make a profit while and by satisfying their customers! It's called the free market folks (as opposed to Bernie Sanders wanting to give stuff away for free at taxpayers' expense). Long live capitalism.

A hat tip to peter Q for the info on this.

Off To Do Some Chores Soon And Get In A Little Shopping

First to the town offices to renew a dog license. Then maybe to Home Depot to get some paint with which to paint the basement floor. It's about time that I at least have everything I need to get the job done, then who knows, maybe I will start the job soon (maybe even this weekend).

After that, I think I will be headed to some local gun stores to check on the availability and prices of the new Ruger Mark IV pistol in both the blued steel and stainless versions of the target model with the 5.5" barrel. I have had some cash burning a hole in my pocket since last weekend when I sold two pistols.

One Down - Many More To Go

The first "sanctuary city" to drop its sanctuary status for illegal aliens is Miami as the mayor there has ordered city officials to comply with President Trumps executive order to prevent the city from losing federal funding. Of course, many other mayors, such as the douchebag in NYC, will fight Trump at all costs. As Mayor Bill de Blasio of NYC reportedly put it: "'We will not deport law-abiding New Yorkers', " (source).

The de Blasio quote has me wondering - since when did the states or the cities deport anyone and since when are ILLEGAL aliens law abiding? I guess though that comes as no surprises since leftists truly seem to live out their lives in Bizarro World apart from the rest of us here in the real world.

I Could See Him Getting Bitch Slapped...

...good and hard for screaming repeatedly into someone's ear like that, or maybe even being beaten to a bloody pulp.

Not that I necessarily advocate violence in return for screaming but  I would think the guy being yelled at could think his hearing in jeopardy and that he may believe it to be a threat of serious injury and act accordingly. Of course, the fact that the asshole is not only screaming in the guy's ear but is also shoving into him with his body possibly could be considered assault in some places, and a threat of serious bodily injury since the guy being shoved seems to almost loose his balance a couple of times, which could result in a a fall and a serious injury and thus possibly could justifiably deserve force in return (again - in some places). I assure you, I would not idly have stood for what the jerk-off in the maroon cap was doing if it was being done to me and I felt so threatened I would have taken legal actions to defend myself until the threat had ceased.

Good Riddance To An Alien of Sorts,....

Mark Morgan Border Patrol Chief,
hopefully nevermore. Photo source.
...at least to someone alien to the U.S. Border Patrol until appointed to be its chief last June. In fact, U.S. Border Patrol Chief Mark Morgan was the first to be assigned from outside of the ranks of the U.S. Border Patrol since its inception in 1924. Appointed by President Obama  mere months ago, Morgan was a former FBI agent and was also apparently believed to have committed wrongdoing therein (source).

President Trump has ordered him out! That ouster will probably bode very well with the Border Patrol's union and rank & file considering that they opposed Morgan because he reportedly was supportive of President Obama's leniency toward illegal aliens (source). The Border Patrol union and its rank & file considered this outsider a disgrace (source).  I say good riddance and don't let the border crossing hit you in the arse.

One has to wonder, what part of the term illegal alien was it that neither Obama nor Morgan understood to mean that they are here illegally and thus deserve nothing from us while those who wait, for years, to enter legally (and I mean those without refugee status) were pretty much ignored and forgotten by Obama.  Hopefully President Trump will set this all right and legal immigration to our land by law abiding immigrants will become the desired norm as opposed to the entry of illegal aliens being accepted as normal or desired in any way shape of form.

Trump draining the swamp - I love it.

The Upcoming Attempted Assassination Of President Donald Trump

I will be amazingly and happily surprised if there is not at least one serious assassination attempt made against President Donald Trump within the next 6 months at most  but I believe one is imminent within that time frame. The American left evidently has become that completely anti-everything that is not in complete agreement with their absolutely foggy leftist agenda. They are totally intolerant of anything not falling within their extremely bizarre parameters and Trump is their main antagonist in their eyes.

As evidence of that, not only can you look to the civil unrest  that was unleashed by the left upon Donald Trump becoming the lawfully elected president, to the numerous threats against him that have been made via social media and via public events such as when Madonna said she had considered blowing up the White House (source), to the head of a Secret Service office saying in essence that she would not defend the president (source - a leftist or at least liberal source at that) but now we also have this - a teacher allegedly shooting an image of Donald Trump while screaming "die" (source).

Yes, I had thought that maybe some good old racist white boy from the south would try to off Obama and that did not come to pass but then again he was a democrat just like most of those so called good old boys from the south. Trump, on the other hand is a Republican or at least ran as one, though he is as far removed from the RINOs as I can imagine (and that is a good thing). Anyway, it is definitely the left that is making threats against him and that seemingly poses the biggest credible threat to him. Yes indeed, I would be amazingly and happily surprised if such does not come to pass but with the current rabidity of the whackos on the left, I see it coming sooner than later and that is a bad thing.

Stay safe Mr. President Trump and keep doing what you are doing because we who voted for you, and by now I am sure many who did not vote for you, see you as the only person who has a chance of saving the United States of America from economic collapse and from the utter destruction of our Constitutional Republic by anarchists and leftists.

You Never Know...

...when you're going to fall down a flight of stairs from the very top all the way to the floor below. I just did but I guess luckily for me I went down on me arse. The tip of my tailbone and left hip are killing me and a few other things are pretty darned painful but nothing appears disjointed or broken. I imagine the pain will only worsen a bit then get better over the course of the day. Oh joy, and I mean that most seriously in as much as I was not seriously injured.

One good thing, I found out my wife loves me enough to come running out of a dead sleep to help me. It even woke up my mother-in-law who came to see what happened.

Lefties Arming For Trumpocalypse

Yes folks, the leftists are arming themselves for fear that Trump will become a tyrant and impose Nazi-like tyranny upon us (source). This after Obama made it so that the government can seize anything you have in the name of the government, readied internment camps under FEMA's control, and threw the Constitution to the rocks at the base of the cliff and all Trump has donme so far is win an election, start to repeal or at least change Obama Care and keep jobs in the USA for citizens and legal resident aliens.

I will repost this for emphasis:

Home Again & Two Pistols Lighter

Brendan and I spent the weekend at my brother-in-law Hans' place in upstate NY. Got there Friday night for what would in essence be a party weekend but with a bit of a diversion on Saturday for me. Enjoyed some Spaten Lagers on Friday night. Come Saturday morning at about 9 or 930 I headed over, by myself, to the Empire Plaza Convention Center in Albany, NY. It is right next to the governor's offices. The reason for heading that way was the Albany Gun Show; how could I resist a gun show next to Governor Cuomo's offices - him being such a rabidly anti-gun guy. I brought along three pistols with me in a green cloth shopping bag, the kind you get at supermarkets. Once there, I hung a for sale sign, that I had made on the back of a small target, to the bag and hung the bag around my neck. It wasn't too heavy at first but at first wore out quickly at it got heavy fast. I was lugging around a new in the box Taurus Millennium G2 P140, an excellent condition Smith & Wesson Model 22A-1 and a very good to maybe excellent condition High Standard M101 Duramatic.

I had a dealer as to look at them and he offered me only $350 for the Taurus and the High Standard. I was asking $225 for the Taurus (including box and papers) and $350 for the High Standard with two barrels. He wasn't interested in the S&W at my asking price of only $125 (which was an excellent buy for anyone with half a brain) as it was in excellent condition with box and papers. Of course, I was not interested in his offer, at least not that early in the show and figured I would complete the rounds of the three tiered room and look at everything while showing off my sign. I had a few folks stop me and ask me about what I had for sale but none were interested enough - as with cash in hand.

After about 45 minutes, I took a short break at the snack bar and had an iced tea. It was crowded and thus hot in the fairly small exhibition hall. My neck was aching so that break was welcomed. Anyway, after the drink, I started my rounds again on the lower level of the hall. Just as I had walked by the first dealers table, I hear the someone calling out to me - hey what have you got for sale. I turned around and saw it was the dealer. I showed him what I had and he was obviously quite interested. He looked them over and asked the price on each. His associate sitting at their table started running checks, I am guessing through something like The Blue Book of Gun Values, on his laptop. After a few minutes he said he would give me $400 for the S&W and the HS. I had been asking $125 for the SW and $350 for the HS. I told him that I'd take $425 for both. He jumped at it, pulled a wad of twenties out of his pocket, counted out $420, found a five and added that to it and handed the cash to me. Then we did the paperwork and I was smiling the whole time. Had I been there longer and it was near the end of the show for the day I would have settled for what the first guy had offered me.

I picked up the Duramatic a few years ago for $220. The S&W cost me $200 brand new. I fired a decent amount of rounds through the High Standard in that time and put a decent number but not as many through the S&W as I did the HS. I liked the High Standard M1-1 Duramatic but did not like the S&W at all. In my estimation the S&W was a piece of unmitigated junk. I could have asked more for it, maybe as much as $50 or even $75 more but just wanted rid of it quick. The High Standard, on the other hand, truly lived up to the high standards that the name implies and I asked for just under what it was worth at retail with two barrels. I did my research on the Duramatic too. I checked both the Blue Book of Gun Values and purchased a sales report from GunBroker that gave the pricing said model sold in GunBroker auctions over the past year. I did alright on that one. In fact, I did better than I had expected especially considering I was selling to a dealer. I am a happy camper and now have some cash maybe for another gun.

The only bummer about this deal was that when I got home today, I went to the local constabulary to have them taken off of my pistol license. When I told the clerk at the PD that I sold them at a gun show she grimaced, went to the back of the office to consult with a police officer and then came back and got the job done. I asked why she had made the face and she told me that their sergeants had told them it was absolutely illegal for any pistol license holder to sell a pistol at a gun show. She also added that whomever she just spoke to about it told her that was balderdash and it had been okay for me to have done so. Then the bummer - Paid $10 for each gun to come off of the license.

Anyway, I now have $405 leftover to add to the fund to buy another gun. I am thinking of getting a Glock 19 or a Ruger MK IV. That Ruger MK IV is singing a Siren's song but the allure of the Glock 19 for an everyday carry is just about the Ruger's equal. If I get lucky and sell one or two more guns, or some other things, before I spend what cash I have then maybe I can get both of them. For instance, here is a link to what I have up for sale right now.

I digress - so back to the weekend. After the gun show I headed back to Hans's place with cash in my pocket. All I had bought at the show was a t-shirt for Brendan and an iced tea (plus parking and admittance fees). Once back at Hans' place - Hans, his brother Alex, a friend Nancy, Brendan and I watched Angel On My Shoulder. Once that was over, Brendan and me headed out to pick up a couple of pizzas from a local restaurant. Surprisingly it was not bad at all. Then I had a few long awaited drinks - maybe three or four Spaten Lagers and a couple or few small glasses of Carolan's Irish Cream Liqueur (both brought along by me). Delicious and well worth the wait.

On Sunday, everything centered around fun and the upcoming football games that evening. We started the day with a hearty breakfast of sausages, ham steaks, eggs, English Muffins coffee and juice for those who wanted it. Soon after that I went with Alex to a local store for some stuff we needed then back to Hans' place. Once back, Hans and I also drove over to the Great Sacandaga Lake to meet Brendan who went there to check out the ice fishing folks. When we got there, I was pretty dismayed to see Brendan about 100 yards or more from shore on the ice that had pools of water here and there. The temps were in the high thirties and I was not happy at the possibilities but he wound up okay, came in to BS with us, then walked back out wanting me to take some pictures despite my objections (a father will worry a bit about stuff like that I suppose). Once back at Hans' place, Brendan and I did some shooting. He checked out his new 870 and I a used but new to me 870 with synthetic stock. Bothe were fine shooters as to be expected of any Remington 870 in good condition and these were in new condition (his) and like new  condition (mine). Then, I gave Nancy a quick lesson in firearms safety and she took a shot, only one, with one of the guns I had along. Then I took some shots with my Beretta pistol. After that we all, except Alex, enjoyed a Bloody Mary each. Alex had something else because he is not into hot stuff and the Bloody Mary mix was a five pepper variety. I had picked the mix and all I can say was I have had better but it was still yummy.

After that it was time to start pigging out pre-game time. Game time came on fast and the drinking and moshing continued throughout the evening until and even a bit after the second game was over. I did not drink much - maybe one Weihenstephaner Hefe Weiss Bier  (I had brought Hans a case of it) and a quasi-Margarita made with margarita mix and Everclear 190 proof grain alcohol (another thing I had brought along). It was delicious - but I was the only one to drink any of it - maybe two shots in the mixed drink and a half a capful straight but that was enough considering it is 2.375 times as strong as 80 proof booze. Everyone else drank biers or mixed drinks of whatever Hans had on hand and I think those four also enjoyed some of Hans' fine Scotch collection - and I do mean a large collection of finer Scotch whisky. Of course we also watched the games. As it turned out, Brendan and Nancy did well in a football pool, they had split a box in each game, winning one of the quarters in the second game thanks to that missed extra point.

This morning we ate a hearty breakfast of bacon, sausages, eggs, English Muffins or toast and coffee and again orange juice for those who wanted it. I already had packed the car before breakfast and just about as soon as we were finished eating, Brendan and I said our goodbyes and hit the road. I am guessing that was about 945. We got hone at about 1110 or 115. Excellent time and we essentially beat the forecast storm. We were close to home when the winds started whipping then even closer to home when it started raining just a bit. It will stay rain down our way but Hans will probably be hit by a nasty winter storm of rain, frozen rain and snow.

In all the weekend was not only fun but also profitable for me as well as for Brendan and Nancy. Not a bad weekend at all, nope - not at all.

All the best,
Glenn B

TEAM AMERICA

President Trump's acceptance speech was one of the most impressive that I have ever heard. His reference to the government going back to be one run by our citizens instead of by politicians who have enriched themselves at our expense while our nation has essentially crumbled was excellently put. If the people give him a chance I believe he will become one of the  greatest unifying factors in our history and only if we give him that chance can we become great again. I will note, he used the word "I" rather infrequently speaking more about us and the citizenry than himself getting things done.

One other thing I noticed, on which I feel compelled to comment, Bill Clinton seemingly was scowling as President Trump walked by him as the president left the dais. That and 70 or so democrats boycotting the inauguration does not bode well for unity. These leftists defy my understanding of my fellow citizens.

I think President Trump will need a lot of luck to establish unity among us with such dissenters and with that in mind I wish the best of luck to President Trump and Vice President Pence.

Would It Be Too Much To Ask That The Alleged Child Taping Mom,...

...if convicted of any crimes involving child abuse, not only permanently will loose custody of her son and get a stiff jail sentence but also that she will be surgically altered so she can never again give birth to another child for her to victimize. Of course you can bet that will not happen even though it may well be a good idea for her and for any parent who does likewise to their children. What will happen is she probably: will be assigned an attorney at tax-payer expense, the attorney will plead she is a troubled teenager (she is reportedly 18 years old and an adult under the law), mental health experts will testi-lie on her behalf at tax payer expense, she will be receive counseling at tax payer expense, she may (not probably) be put into jail (and that will be at tax payer expense), if she is jailed her child will be cared for at tax payer expense, she will retain her breeding functionality and my bet is she will produce more children who will sooner or later be cared for at tax payer expense and whom she may very well violate in the same manner as the child she allegedly taped to the wall and sooner or later she will regain custody of the child she taped to the wall. Our justice system is a bunch of bullshit as it basically protects the accused more than it does the victims and it perpetrates more crime (just look at recidivism rates for any crime). If she is found guilty, surgically removing her ovaries would at least assure she could never birth another victim - is that really too much to ask!

More about her alleged crime here.

Happy Birthday Edgar Allan Poe...

...I hope that there is indeed an afterlife in which you have found sweet bliss.

My favorites of all of Poe's works are his three mysteries, they are in my estimation much better detective stories than any ever written by even Arthur Conan Doyle and written well before those of Doyle. They were: The Murders in the Rue Morgue, The Mystery of Marie Roget and The Purloined Letter. Poe is known as the Father of the detective story (source). If you like detective stories and mysteries and have never read the three by Poe - do yourself a favor and read them. They are truly the basis for all of the detective stories that followed.

Of course, Poe was also author of macabre tales and horror stories, a novel and most certainly of ,scores of excellent poems. Of all of his poems though, one of his briefest is my favorite; it is the last version of a poem that had a couple or few preceding versions:

T:

I heed not that my earthly lot
Hath — little of Earth in it —
That years of love have been forgot
In the hatred of a minute: —
I mourn not that the desolate
Are happier, sweet, than I,
But that you sorrow for my fate
Who am a passer by.

If I could choose what was to be on my tombstone, it would be this poem, there for anyone to see and read who stopped by to visit for a moment at my gravesite.

Poe has been my favorite American author since I was in grammar school. He is tied with, or has a slight edge over, J.R.R. Tolkien and Douglas Adams as my favorite writers in the world.

A hat tip to Eric SWG for the reminder that today was Poe's birthday.

Damn Those Dirty Guns...

...or I suppose I should say damn the lazy bastard that left them fouled. That guy would be me. Pulled out a couple of handguns to bring upstate this weekend for some shooty goodness and realized two of them are dirty filthy and fouled - one would be one of my two Beretta 92FS pistols and the other my Remington 1911 R1. Cleaning will commence one my grandson up on the third floor - sleeping for the night. I may like the aroma of Hoppe's No. 9 but my wife does not and I agree the little one should not be subjected to the fumes.

At least the shotgun I am bringing along is already clean. That is my Remington 870 Express magnum with black synthetic stock. I had it for sale on GunBroker at a starting bid of $275 but the only guy interested was a police officer in CA and as per my terms I do not sell or ship to anyone in CA. Yes, I know, that is restrictive but my sale - my rules and I do not need to deal with a state like CA. I also do not sell or ship to folks in New York City, Chicago, Washington D.C., Massachusetts, U.S. military addresses such as APO and FPO, or anywhere where illegal. I did agree to sell to one person just recently who was in Alaska.  Even though he bid, and that was a violation of my terms, I took his word for it that it was an honest mistake because it was only his second time bidding in an auction on GunBroker and his first auction listed excellent feedback for him.

I will never do that again, that is sell and ship to someone in AK. That is not because there were any problems with the buyer - he seems like a gentleman. There was quite a delay in getting a copy of the required FFL from his dealer who at first refused to email it to me saying he had to fax it. My fax is not in good working order so I told them to mail it or email it and sent a copy of correspondence I had received from the BATFE saying emailing an FL is quite legal. I eventually got the FFL, via email, and then sent the rifle via UPS. That shipment turned into a royal pain in the arse. The rifle was being shipped to Barrow, AK.  Barrow is - as far as I am aware - the northernmost town in the USA. The rifle I shipped there was supposed to go 2nd day air but UPS shipped it ground (which I think had an air component anyway but not 2nd day delivery). That probably happened because the UPS computer system kept saying the delivery address did not exist instead of what it SHOULD have said - that the delivery address was in a remote area and any delivery would be delayed (at least in part) because of the location (and thus there was no second day air service). So, the UPS guy redid the address and input the address manually and it still would not take. Then he told me he was deleting everything and starting again. Well, I guess he forgot to redo it as 2nd day air (he essentially admitted that the next day). I only realized it went ground when UPS sent me an email saying their had been a change to the delivery date. I went back and spent about an hour and a half trying to get them to change it to 2nd day air, and the UPS guy said he accomplished that (after an awful lot of trying on his part including about an hour on the phone with a UPS representative in the Philippines - yes he had to try that way first) and then him apparently getting it done himself in their computer system but somehow it still went ground. All in all, it went days past the scheduled delivery date and it finally arrived yesterday. Have not heard back from the buyer but I trust he will like it because it should be just as described unless UPS damaged it. I am praying this not turn into more of a Magilla than it has been already.

But I digress, so let me get back to the 870 I had up for auction. I decided to pull the auction and bring the 870 upstate with us this weekend so we can have a blast with it and with the other 870 Express Magnum (with laminated stock) I gave to my son recently. I figured since it was not selling, after several weeks on GunBroker, I may as well enjoy shooting it (damn the partially torn rotator cuff). At least the shotgun is not a fouled mess like the two pistols. As for my original 870 Express, it will remain at home so my wife can protect the homestead in case of Zombie attacks or similar disturbances.

I guess I should add, once I get home from the weekend upstate, I need to do some regular gun maintenance and clean the whole kit and caboodle. It's shameful that I put those away fouled and left them that way for at least a month or three.

All the best,
Glenn B

Would It Be Seen As Wrong By Leftists...

...for a conservative or libertarian American citizen to wish that, tomorrow during the inauguration, Obama was to pull out a gun and attempt to assassinate Trump just before he is sworn in AND that Trump wrestles Obama to the ground and does a gun takeaway and then Obama bawls like a baby?

I am not wishing but just wondering. Why wonder about that? Well, I am fairly convinced that many leftists are wishing for almost that same scenario, or at least would applaud it, but only with it ending in Obama firing on Trump and then announcing a coup and declaring himself the Obamessiah For Life. Leftists are that fucked up as far as I can tell.

Protestor Lights Himself On Fire - ...

...well, almost maybe, kind of, sort of - not really. Anyway, he claims that is what he was trying to do to protest Trump(?). More here, with video.

Frigging arsehat snowflake leftists can not even get it right even when trying to light themselves afire. Or is it that they are all just bullshitters when it comes to actually doing what they say they are going  to do or tried to do! Maybe more than a bit of both.

A Big Disappointment At The Range Today

I picked up a new Savage Model 93, in 22 WMR, back in August. I finally got around to shooting it for the first time today; yes I am THE great procrastinator. While it's a beautiful rifle with a really nice stock, the shame is that it does not function properly.

Damned thing kept having feed problems. That happened with the 5 round magazine that came with it and two other 10 round OEM Savage magazines made for this model (so it is not likely the magazines since all three had the same result). The bolt would not go more than a bit forward on many rounds but worked fine with no mag or an empty mag. The rounds not feeding properly caused it to stop in its forward travel. While some rounds fed properly, I had to either jiggle the mag a few times or push it up further into mag well or pull it down a bit (or all three) to get many of the rounds to feed. I figure more than half failed to feed properly. The mags were all inserted properly but all three of them had an awful lot of play. I checked in the mag well to see if anything was preventing the magazines from seating properly but saw nothing that looked out of place. I was using two different brands and types of ammo - so it in all likelihood was not the ammunition. I also had cleaned the rifle before bringing it to the range.

I am guessing that whatever internal part holds the mags in place is
not holding them right. So, I just sent a service request to Savage and hopefully they will cover it under warranty; I also sent a copy of my receipt as an attachment. I believe theirs is a one year warranty so it should be covered for whatever.
One other thing I learned when shooting it, I have to move the scope forward at least a couple of inches, it is set way too far back causing me to tilt my head back to be able to focus through it. You can see in the photo of it above that whoever mounted the scope had it all the way back. Both that and the feed problem indicate shitty quality control, I suppose.

Oh well, I guess the Savage 93 is not coming upstate with me and my son this weekend when we go to my brother-in-law Hans' place for a football party weekend. Maybe I will bring the Marlin 25MN for some plinking on Saturday and again on Sunday before the games. Should definitely be bringing my son's new Remington 870 and a few of my handguns. I, for one, don't want to spend a weekend there without shooting something and I guess Brendan feels likewise.

If I Called The University Administration A Bunch of Assholes...

...would that be considered offensive or oppressive under the guidelines of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls? They reportedly have just instituted a new policy warning students  to 'check' themselves to avoid using certain words that might offend people or be thought of as oppressive (source). I do not think assholes was on the list but even if it was there, I think I will just call them that and leave it as such.

Protestors Ahead - Pedal To The Metal

North Dakota is considering passage of a bill to eliminate liability for drivers who accidentally strike protestors with their cars on highways.

As reported: "House Bill 1203 was written up in direct response to groups of protesters blocking roadways, Kempenich told the paper. He claims protesters were seen jumping out in front of vehicles" (source).

I think it is an excellent idea because I do not believe there is anyway that you, as a driver, should be held liable for the actions of arsehats who intentionally place themselves in harms way by jumping out in front of approaching vehicles on roadways and thus cause an accident. Of course it could have some drawbacks and over zealous drivers might put the pedal to the metal hoping to hit someone and get off Scott free under this law. I am willing to bet though that passage of this law and refusal to prosecute the first driver involved in such an accident that badly injures or kills a protestor would cause the number of protests on highways plummet. Such though is life, and this would be fair to law abiding drivers involved in such accidents. I mean - if you want to take a chance recklessly protesting on an active highway then I think you, not the drivers on the highway who are driving there legally,
should  suffer the consequence of your foolhardy actions!

Please Join Me In My Request To Bring Back The Elephants One Last Time

As you may be aware, Feld Inc. - the owners of Ringling Brothers And Barnum & Bailey Circus - have announced that the circus will be giving its last performances this spring. One of the deciding reasons for the closure is apparently that animal rights whackos drove the last nail into the coffin with their successful campaign to eliminate elephants from the performances. Ticket sales which were already declining took a nose dive once the elephants were gone.

The thing about the elephants is that they made great The Greatest Show On Earth. Feld Inc. says it never anticipated the sharp decline in tickets sales that took place after the removal of the elephants from the performances but I have to wonder, what did they expect! Did they think that members of animal rights groups would suddenly flock to buy circus tickets in appreciation for it. Whatever, I suppose it a moot point because the end is upon us, The Greatest Show On Earth will soon be nevermore.

With that in mind, I have sent a request to Feld. Inc.. My request is simply that in honor of the loyal fans of Ringling Brothers And Barnum & Bailey Circus - they bring back the elephants for this last tour and yes they still own the elephants - see this. I am hopeful that many of you will make the same request of them, whether you plan to see them one last time or not, and that you encourage your family and friends to do likewise by requesting they bring back the elephants for this last tour.

Feld Inc's. worldwide headquarters' email address is: information@feldinc.com

Their customer service email address is: customerservice@feldinc.com

The content of my request was as follows:

"Dear Feld Inc.,

I just tried to purchase tickets for your final show on Sunday May 21st at the New Coliseum in Uniondale, NY. I had to settle for tickets on Friday night May 19th. That is okay by me but I have a special request of you not only for myself but for all of those who are fans of Ringling Brothers And Barnum & Bailey Circus.

I, and I am sure that millions of other Americans who love Ringling Brothers And Barnum & Bailey Circus, in fact certainly all of those who will attend your last tour, would ask that you bring back the elephants for this final tour. Maybe it would be impractical or not cost effective but please think of the smiles you would put on the faces and of all the joy you would put into the hearts of the ladies, gentleman, boys & girls, children of all ages who would be in attendance if each show had at least a few elephants there to perform. If you at all wish to honor your fans with performances they deserve, for sticking with you until the end, then please, I implore you, make this happen! Don't go out with a whimper - go out with the memory of your circus truly being The Greatest Show On Earth!

All the best,
Glenn B..."

I also included my phone number on the off chance they want to get back to me personally. Yes, I realizes this is probably not going to happen, that is unless we - the normal people who loved seeing the elephants at the circus and who loved to see the smiles they put on the faces of children, do something to make it happen. I wrote to both of them with the same request. It only takes a few moments, so I truly hope you will join me in doing the same.

All the best,
Glenn B

Animal Rights Fanatics Have Destroyed The Greatest Show On Earth

Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus will be shutting down operations in May 2017 and I believe that you can pretty much thank the lefty animal rights fanatics for closing it down. While ticket sales had declined some in general, the elimination of the elephants from the circus (pushed for over the years by such whacko groups as PETA) resulted in a severe decline in ticket sales.

"After much evaluation and deliberation, my family and I have made the difficult business decision that Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® will hold its final performances in May of this year. Ringling Bros. ticket sales have been declining, but following the transition of the elephants off the road, we saw an even more dramatic drop. This, coupled with high operating costs, made the circus an unsustainable business for the company..." (Source.)

And:

"The decision to end the circus tours was made as a result of high costs coupled with a decline in ticket sales, making the circus an unsustainable business for the company. Following the transition of the elephants off the circus, the company saw a decline in ticket sales greater than could have been anticipated..." (Source.)

I just tried getting tickets, through Ticket Master, for the last show ever, which is to be at the new Coliseum in Uniondale, NY on May 21st. Sadly, no tickets were available at any price. I may still get tickets for another performance although it would have been sweet, actually bitter-sweet, to be there for the very last show of this American icon of family entertainment.

Fucking Crazy animal rights bastards fanatics probably wished for this result in the end and I'd like to bitch slap reprimand each and every one of them for their self righteous foolishness. Thanks a lot assholes!

CMP National Matches

Volunteering for temporary work asignments used to be a bad habit of mine but one that got me lots of free travel. I haven't volunteered for virtualy anything since I retired but considered doing so dor the CMP National Matches last year but never got around to it. Got an email from the CMP today; they are seeking volunteers to work their national matches in June and July. I signed up for aeveral days at the rifle matches at the end of June and for the pistol matches on July 1 & 2.

If they select me, I am guessing it could be an interesting and fun time. Heck, I might even decide to join the fun as a competitor in the pistol match. Anyway, I would be doing my part to help a decent organization promote the shooting sports and the RKBA.

Oh My Aching Loins

Just thinking about this hurts. A California man (where else could he come from) has promised to emasculate himself should Donald Trump begin construction of a border wall. Read the tiny tidbit about it here.

I remember, in a bygone era, at least in New York City, the police would have already detained this guy and placed him into Bellevue Hospital's psychiatric ward for mental observation. Had he been found a danger to himself or society, he would have been forcibly committed. That was long ago; in today's world he probably will be hailed as some sort of hero by the loonies on the left (which I am beginning to think is every last one of them).

An Arizona Gas Station Clerk Broke The Rules...

...and it proved to be a crime stopper of a rules 'violation'. Instead of allowing an alleged armed 17 year old dirtbag to rob him at gunpoint, the clerk reportedly pulled his own pistol and shot the would be robber. While trying to make a getaway, the failed robber realized his arm was not functioning (maybe because he had been shot in the arm) and ran to a restaurant for help. Police were called and responded and brought him to a hospital where they say he admitted to the failed robbery attempt and also to another, but successful one, a couple of days earlier. As reported here he also
allegedly told police the reason he hit gas stations: "they are supposed to just hand over the money and not try to stop anyone." (Source.) I guess the clerk never heard that one before and even if he had, he decided to break the rules and fought back! Way to go brother in arms.

Yes folks, armed citizens can indeed help curtail crime but if you read my blog it is highly likely you knew that already.

Never Draw On A Drawn Gun - Ha Ha Ha Hearty Ha Ha!

As you watch this, remember what the experts keep telling you about not being able to draw on a drawn gun and win the gunfight.

I guess this must have been an exception because the bad guy had two drawn guns.

I wonder if the store clerk got both of them! One can hope so.

A Few Of The Most Instrumental Things That Steered Me Right...

...when I was a young lad were from the entertainment world of yesteryear. One of them helped lead me to my career, another to me becoming a real a man and the last helped turn me into someone who never tried to take advantage of others in need but rather to help them even when in a position to easily exploit them.

So tell me, how could I not choose a career as a government agent after the first, nor choose to be a heterosexual after the second, and as for the third one - how could I ever become an evil wrongdoing SOB if I lived my life like Paladin - on the razor's edge between being an outlaw and a lawman! The three of these helped form the overall man that I became in my lifetime - not perfect but striving, no matter how imperfect, to reach the unreachable star.

Entertainment back then was much more beneficial to society than the absolute crap with which our kids are inundated today. Thank the heavens for the 60s and before.

One Smart Assed Donkey

Now, if you think I meant the third donkey, the one that picked up the fence pole in its mouth and then dropped it and got by without jumping, yeah that one was smart but that is not the one I meant. The really smart one was the ass at the ass end of the line. It waited while two jumped over the fence and one dismantled the fence and only then made its move, the move with the least effort of all. That my friends is a true smart ass indeed!

There Are Monsters Among Us...

...and some of them pretend to be our loving parent or in this case step-mother. Sara Packer, the mother of 14 year old Grace Packer, and Jacob Sullivan, the mother's boyfriend,  have been charged with the truly horrendous crime in which they allegedly murdered the girl. Her death did not come swiftly or painlessly and not before the girl was allegedly: beaten, raped (while the mother watched), left in a hot attic to die while bound and gagged and thrown into a cedar closet, and then was essentially strangled - all over an 18 hour period. Apparently they had planned the "rape-murder fantasy" for almost a year. It is also reported that the pair tried to commit suicide on this past  December 30th by drug overdose and that while in the hospital being treated for that, the man reportedly told hospital employees that he and the Grace's mom were responsible for the teen's murder. More here and here.

If they are indeed guilty, and the linked article says the man has confessed, then I cannot even begin to detail what I would like to do to this pair for fear of the mind police coming to lock me up in the Bizarro World in which we live today! I will tell you this much: I would gladly mete out vengeance for the child and would not go easy on her killers were it legal for me to do so. I would choose to go slowly, very slowly, possibly with some bit of accomplishment in my heart (knowing that true justice was being done), while bringing them to an excruciatingly painful demise.

I pray there truly is a Heaven and that Grace is their now surrounded by love and tranquility.
