Flash - Who Cares If It's Not Official - It Is A Stunning Achievement

Not being much of a sports fan doesn't mean I can't or don't appreciate milestones in athletic achievement. For an almost 35 year old man to run a marathon in less than two hours not only is impressive it is stunning.

"Superstar runner Eliud Kipchoge broke the elusive 2-hour marathon barrier Saturday—an achievement once considered beyond a human’s reach.

The Olympic champion and world record holder from Kenya clocked 1 hour, 59 minutes and 40.2 seconds at the INEOS 1:59 Challenge in Vienna." More at the source.

Damn, my legs and lower back sometimes hurt after after walking a mile, I cannot imagine what this ma's body feels like after running 26.22 miles and doing it in that record shattering time (although not an official record, he also holds the official marathon record at 2 hours 31 minutes and 39 seconds). Whatever his body may have felt like after that feat of stamina/endurance and speed, I am sure his head was in the clouds. As he said:

"That was the best moment of my life..."
I am figuring there is going to be another best moment in his athletic life, the moment he breaks the two hour barrier in an unaided marathon. My guess is he will be the one to do it, the Flash had nothing on this man.

All the best,
Glenn B

No WAY he was on performance enhancing drugs.

Un-possible!

Well, since he already holds the official world record of 2:01:39 and I am guessing they would test him for drugs relative to that, I kind of doubt it. In this latest attempt to beat the 2 hour mark, he did have groups of pace runners running with him and a pace car using laser guidance to assure he ran the easiest path along the race route and I am guessing that was enough to push him over the top and break the 2 hour mar; although, those assists were what made this achievement ineligible for the official world record. Of course, he may have used enhancements like drugs or oxygen infused blood doping (I think that is what you would call it); after all, look how long that bicycle guy, I think his name was Lance Armstrong, got away with it. Hopefully not though since achieving this under only your own power is what makes it great.
